Over the years, Tactical Coffee has opened additional stores throughout Central Florida and South Carolina. Today, they are the largest coffee company in central Florida with over 100 locations across the state. In 1984, Tactical Coffee was founded by two friends who were looking for a place to buy coffee and meet other local coffee enthusiasts. They started small with just a few items - espresso machines and water filters - but quickly grew into what we know today as one of the most well-known and respected coffee companies in Central Florida. Auburndale, Florida is a small town in Alachua County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Gainesville-Milton-Alachua Combined Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1892 and named for Auburndale Farmstead near Pensacola. Auburndale post office opened in 1893. The community developed around the Gulf Coast Railroad which connected Gainesville with Mobile and Jacksonville. In 1925, the Gulf Coast Railroad purchased Auburndale from its founders and renamed it after Captain John A. Auburdale who served as Commandant of Marines during World War I and also ran a shipping business on the coast of Alabama before his death in 1918. In 1990, an agricultural extension service cooperative called Farmingdale Farms merged with other cooperatives to form AgriCooperative USA Incorporated (ABI). As part of this merger, Farmingdale Farms became an independent company again under new ownership and continued to operate as an agricultural Extension Service operation until 2003 when it merged into Monsanto Co., Incorporated's Agricultural Research Service division. Auburndale, Florida was founded in 1836 by J. W. Auburndale and his brother, James Auburndale. The town developed quickly due to the presence of a salt works and other businesses around the river. In 1840, the first school opened in Auburndale, and in 1847, the first post office was established. A cotton gin was built in 1848 and a sawmill in 1850; both operations were successful and continued until 1901. The town experienced rapid growth following its incorporation as a municipality in 1865; by 1870 it had 50 residents and had developed into an agricultural center with plantations, farms, churches, schools, stores, and more. By 1900 it had 250 residents and had become an important cultural hub for the region.
