Airforce gift history in Aventura, Florida dates back to 1947 when the United States Air Force placed an order for a new jet fighter plane. The plane was delivered to Aventura Municipal Airport on December 15, 1947. The first jet fighter plane in the Air Force was christened "Avenger" and served with the 2nd Fighter Squadron, 4th Fighter Wing at Aventura Municipal Airport until it was scrapped in 1957. In 1978, the United States Air Force gifted a Boeing 707-200 Jet Airliner to Aventura Municipal Airport as part of the Airport's 50th Anniversary celebration. This aircraftserved as the primary air carrier for passengers and cargo at Aventura Municipal Airport until 1996 when it was retired from service and replaced by a more modern Airbus Helicopter fleet. As of 2018, this is still the only time that an Airbus Helicopter has been stationed at Aventura Municipal Airport. The airport also hosted several other USAF gifts during its history including; an F-5E Tiger II Night Strike Fighter aircraft in 1984 which flew into and out of Miami International Airlines Terminal 2; two C-130J Hercules Aircraft in 1992 which transported supplies between various military bases within easy reach ofthe airport; three KC-135 Stratotanker Aircraft as part of Operation Homecoming in 1994; four EC-135 Globemaster III helicopters donated by Lockheed Martin Corporation during Operation Neptune's Spear campaign against Guatemalan rebels on October 25, 1998; and finally five Bell 412 Jet Boats donated by American Airlines Company duringOperation Noble Eagle on November 8,1999. Today, Aeropuerto de Aventura continues to serve as one of South Florida’s leading airports with its large number of passenger arrivals and departures handled through six terminals located across four levels with ample parking for both jets and cars. Aventura, Florida is a city in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,619 at the 2010 census. It is included in the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. Aventura is known for its beaches and resorts, as well as its annual Faire of the Arts which takes place in downtown on Memorial Day weekend. The area that now comprises Aventura was first settled by Seminoles in what is now Pinellas County. The town of Aventura was established on May 25, 1881 by James Hickey and other settlers from New York City and Boston who had come to Cuba to work on sugar plantations. The town was named after Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon's ship "Viento". On December 12, 1886, Aventura incorporated as a village under the name of Villa Clara de la Vega. In 1912, Aventura became an independent municipality with a mayor and a council-manager form of government. In 1916 it merged with neighbouring Clearwater to become the consolidated municipality of Clearwater and Aventura. In 1952 it reverted back to its separate municipalities status when it merged with St Petersburg again becoming the consolidated municipality of St Petersburg-AventURA once again effective December 15th 1952 On January 1st 1959 AventURA became fully stateless when it separated from St Petersburg proper effective January 1st 1959 due to 100% annexation by Hillsborough County into that county since Pinellas County only had 8 wards instead of 20 as Palm Beach County did then On July 1st 1966 – following one full year without any changes – Municipal District #3 (the old Indian Creek Township) within Municipal District #2 (Tampa) were combined into Municipal District #1 (Aventura) resulting in an overall population increase from 122 residents per square mile over pre-combination numbers but no real change either civilly or economically because there wasn't really anything new built or opened up within those boundaries since they remained essentially same until 2003 when Hunters Point Boulevard got rerouted through downtown/south side streets directly onto US 19 bypassing east side neighborhoods making access much easier for commuters getting around town
