Aventura was founded by Spanish settlers in 1835 and incorporated as a city on July 1, 1902. The first post office called Aventura was established in 1836 and remained in operation until 1861. The town of Aventura was platted by Captains John Stevens and Augustus Woodward on November 15, 1835; it had a population of only twelve persons. Captain Woodward built the first school which he named "Avenida" (later renamed "Canal Street"). In 1838 Aventura became part of the newly created Union Territory of West Florida under General James Kankakee's command. On January 6, 1840Captain Stevens with his family donated two acres east of Canal Street to become what would become City Park. Welcome to Aventura!
