Since the early 1900s, the Coast Guard has been a vital part of Aventura's community. From providing safety and security to aiding in the delivery of goods and people, the Coast Guard has always been there for those in need. In commemoration of its history and Contributions to Aventura, we are honoring their gift history with a special event on Saturday, November 4th from 10am-12pm at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The Coast Guard Gift History Museum is open from 9am-5pm daily during October - April; closed May - September. Admission is free for all visitors! The museum features over 50 displays illustrating the many ways that the Coast Guard has helped make Aventura a better place. From maritime law enforcement to emergency response, our collection of artifacts tells the story of how these dedicated individuals have supported our community through service and sacrifice. The museum is also home to an impressive collection of vintage uniforms and equipment from both local and international agencies who have responded to disasters throughout Florida over the years. These items include garments worn by every Pogues Band member during Hurricane Andrew in 1992 as well as tools used by FEMA in Katrina weeks later! This unique piece of memorabilia will be on display starting at 10am on Saturday, November 4th until 5pm only!

Aventura, Florida is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. It is the county seat of Miami-Dade County and was founded in 1926. The population was 1,541 at the 2010 census. Aventura is an unincorporated community located within Miami-Dade County.
Aventura was founded in 1881 by Capt. John D. Maynard and his wife, Anna L. Maynard as a small community on the banks of the Kissimmee River. The name Aventura was derived from an Indian word meaning "the place where rivers meet." The first store opened in 1882 and the first post office was established in 1883. In 1886, Aventura became a municipality with its own government and fire department. The first school was built in 1889 and it is still in use today as the Aventura Elementary School. In 1901, Aventura became a city with its own mayor and council. On November 5, 1903, Mayor Wm Halsey recommended that the city annex to Hillsborough County because of the high population density within boundaries of both counties. The annexation was approved by county commissioners on December 2, 1903. The City of Aventura experienced rapid growth during World War II due to its proximity to military installations such as Fort Myers Beach and Melbourne Beach (then known as Miami Beach). Many large businesses were located within walking distance ofAventura's downtown area which contributed to continued growth during wartime times. After the war ended, many businesses closed down or relocated outside of town due to changing economic conditions; however, some major companies such as IBM remain headquartered inAventura today (albeit not always within walking distance). In 1949-50, construction began on what is now known as North Road/County Line Drive which will connect Downtown Aventura with Everglades National Park across I-95 southbound lanes eastbound lanes
