Aventura, Florida is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,554 at the 2010 census. Aventura is located on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean and is bordered by Kendall to the east and Biscayne Bay to the west. The area that would become Aventura was first inhabited by Indians including the Tequestas and Calusa people. In 1795 Spanish settlers founded Fort Brooke on an island in Biscayne Bay. The fort served as a military base for years until it was abandoned in 1824. A year later, Spain ceded sovereignty of Cuba to Great Britain after a series of wars with Spain. British traders began trading in Cuba and they soon discovered what they called "the best land in all America". They named this new land Aventura because it had no trees or salt water Creek within its boundaries. In 1835 Pedro Menéndez de la Vega bought some land from Juana Margarita López de Cisneros near what is now known as Juan Goncemosa Boulevard and built his home there which remain today as part of Aventura's history. He became one of the wealthiest men in Miami-Dade County because he developed crops and cattle but also imported slaves to work on his plantation during its early years. His son Isidro Menéndez de la Vega (1811-1892) also became very wealthy through sugar cane farming although he did not own any slaves himself. In 1842 José María Figueroa y Salinas purchased property north of Juan Goncemosa Boulevard from Pedro Menéndez de la Vega for $10,000 cash only days before American forces destroyed Spanish Fort Brooke on Biscayne Bay during their invasion of Cuba under General José Martínez Yáñez on April 12thof that year.. Figueroa y Salinas decided to settle his family here instead of continuing southward along present day US Highway 7 where much more fertile soil was available elsewhere around Homestead Key.. In 1845 he built Villa del Rey – which still stands today – which consisted of several buildings including a chapel, library, theater (now used as a museum), servants quarters and two cisterns beneath it which still provide drinking water today.. The Figueroa y Salinas brothers were one of the most influential families in Cuban life at this time due to their ownership/possession of such significant assets throughout southern Florida.. After Hispanic Emancipation Proclamation - issued on February 14th 1865 - all white males over 25 living within 3 miles (5 km) along US Highway 27 were required to leave Dade County for three years regardless whether they owned property or not… This decree led many Hispanics who resided within Confederate territory such as those located near Ft Myers or Port Charlotte where Yankees controlled local government specifically targeting these areas…. Prior to Emancipation Proclamation many Hispanics worked off farms or services provided by whites….. After emancipation these immigrants started looking for ways to get back into Utopia Land while keeping contact with loved ones back home….. Many Mexicans who had been working off farm jobs when slavery ended enlisted in Confederate armies during the Civil War…… Most returned home once slavery ended but some stayed behind hoping things would change back then….. Those who remained behind faced discrimination both from Yankee troops stationed nearbyandfrom white Anglo Saxon citizens living adjacentto them…. However following Mexican Revolution efforts failed miserably due largelyto lackOf political leadership & resources comparedTo successful revolutions undertaken By Chilean& Uruguayan patriots
