After Osceola's death in 1847, his widow founded a school named after him which continues today as The Osceola School District #1 public education institution serving students from central Broward County through Parkland and Immokalee counties along with sections near Ft Lauderdale and West Palm Beach; although most students attend Catholic schools within that district or private parochial schools within adjoining districts outside Broward Counties..
