Belle Glade is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Belle Glade is located on U.S. Route 27 and State Road 16A. Belle Glade was named for Belle Isle on Lake Okeechobee, which had been purchased by Colonel James A. Bellezada in 1836 as a gift from Spanish Emperor Carlos III to make an agricultural center for Florida settlers and provide hunting and fishing opportunities for Americans during the Seminole Wars. In 1854, Belle Glade became part of Miami-Dade County after it was annexed from Miami Township; it remained unincorporated until 1959 when it incorporated under its current name as a result of state legislation creatingPolk County.[1] The town began as an agricultural community with several hundred acres (200 ha) of land bought by farmers in the early 20th century who raised chickens, pigs, cattle and other livestock thereabouts; citrus production also grew rapidly during this time period but stopped due to lack of markets or interest among buyers after World War II ended hostilities between the United States and Cuba[2]. In 1957, following annexation by Polk County of adjacent Miami-Dade County (the two towns were combined into one municipality), development resumed in Belle Glade with construction beginning on what would become known as "The Park", comprising 459 acres (160 ha) including much of what now forms downtown Belle Glade; this area has since been developed into one of largest shopping complexes in Florida with over 350 stores and restaurants inside The Park itself as well as additional retail acreage surrounding the perimeterAll told today more than 2 million people visit Belle Glade each year attracted by its wide variety of shops, dining options and attractions such as golf courses [] . Growth continues apace with plans to add an additional 100 acres (40 ha) to The Park through condemnation proceedings commenced in 2016 resulting in the erection of a new mixed use/commercial/residential complex called "Garden City" [] .

Belle Glade became a town in 1892 and then a city in 1959. It is part of Orlando metropolitan area. Belle Glade is known for its botanical gardens, golf courses, and history. The Botanical Gardens were built in 1891 as part of a plantation by John C Weems and are home to over 200 species of plants from around the world. The golf courses include one that has been ranked number one in the United States by Golf Digest since 1984, as well as six other professional courses within twenty miles of Belle Glade. In addition to its botanical gardens and golf courses, BelleGlade has a variety of cultural attractions such as art galleries, theaters, restaurants, and nightlife venues. The city’s first post office opened on October 15th, 1892 (pictured). At that time it was just called “Belle Grove” because there were only twelve homes within five miles of where it would later be located. By 1909 the name had changed to “Belle Glades” after Mrs J H Slaton donated land for a park which would become known today as City Park (pictured). In 1957 Belleglade became an official city with its own charter that provided for many services not available through county government such as a library system (opened in 1962), fire department (opened in 1911), planning/Zoning Commission (opened 1965), water resources department (opened 1978), streets Department (opened 1949) and more! Today almost all public services areprovided through unincorporated communities within or near Belle Glade including Orange County Historical Society Museum which contains over 350 objects from before Indian Removal until today; housed on two campuses since 1966 both adjacent to each other on University Drive across from Town Hall
