The United States Armed Forces have a long and proud history in Bonita Springs, Florida. The city is home to the 1st Fighter Wing of the Air Force Reserve Command, which was established in 1948. The wing has been responsible for providing air support to military and civilian missions throughout the area since its inception. In 1974, the wing became operational as the 1st Tactical Missile Wing, which served as a ground-based nuclear deterrent force until it was disbanded in 1991. Since then, the wing has enjoyed many growth opportunities. In 2007, it was renamed the 3rd Fighter Wing and activated at Joint Base Clearwater–Fort Walton Beach. As part of this change, it became one of only two wings in Air Force Reserve Command with an active duty fighter mission (the other being Charleston Air National Guard Base’s 4th Fighter Wing). The wing currently operates Boeing F-15C/D Eagle fighters and Lockheed Martin F-16A/B Fighting Falcons from Clearwater AFB. In addition to its active duty fighter mission, 3rd FC also provides support for Operation Noble Eagle – a seasonal deployment of UH-1H Huey helicopters flown by Air Combat Command units during winter months in order to provide logistical assistance to military units operating in Afghanistan. Additionally, 3FC conducts training operations under various instructor squadrons located at both Clearwater AFB and NAS Miramar near San Diego County California; these include squadron level education courses for new pilots and aircrew members undergoing their initial flying tests with EMBRAE Aviation Systems ejection seats simulators on real aircraft platforms while wearing full battle gear including backpack explosives protection gear while engaging targets downrange from our airspace."

Bonita Springs is a census-designated place in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 4,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale–Pompano Beach metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1887 by Danish immigrants as "Bonna." In 1898, it was renamed Bonita Springs after then-Governor A. P. Hill's daughter Bonita. Bonita Springs annexed portions of Defiance and Indian Hills townships in 1916 and 1917. The post office closed in 1951; today only a few relics remain from its days as a major center for mail service and commerce on the bayou system near Fort Myers and Jupiter Island: the two original Post Office Buildings (now used as apartments), an old switchboard (now a garage), some door handles dating back to that period, and curious paving blocks from either side of Main Street serving as markers for both historically significant buildings and commercial locations within their boundaries when they operated concurrently during that time period. In 1971, Bonita Springs became part of the newly formed city of Fort Myers when that community was created out of merger between defenseless Brevard County municipalities east of Interstate 95 (including palm beach) with unincorporated lands west of I-95 along Indian River Lagoon including much later Glades Key neighborhoods annexed into Fort Myers proper following Plans For Sunrise Boulevard designation originally approved by voters there in November 1970 which still denial by county supervisors due to lack faith Broward County would actually follow through with plans).
