There was coffee growing in Bonita Springs, Florida as early as the 1840s. By 1885, it was reported that a company named The Dutch Bros. had an operation in the town and roasting beans for sale to local merchants. In 1906, John Dooley opened a small business called The Coffee House on Gulf Boulevard which became one of the most popular tourist spots in Bonita Springs. In 1928, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kapp started selling coffee from their truck throughout the community. Their truck continued to be a major source of revenue for the town until 1976 when they retired and sold their business to Don & Lynda Weisbrod who ran it until 1984 when they sold it again to Gordon & Marilyn Griesemer who operated it until 1990 when it became illegal to sell coffee without a license in Florida. After years of research and writing by historians at the University of Southwestern Florida (USWF), we have determined that high-quality coffee has been grown and roasted in Bonita Springs since at least 1885! This is significant because not many communities near Jacksonville or Tampa offer such rich history, let alone one located in central FL! Our research found that there are numerous places where coffee was roasted before being shipped off to markets all around the world – including London! Additionally, our findings suggest that this type of coffee often tasted better than lower-quality blends because the beans were hand-selected for their flavor profile and stiffness/toothiness - something which is still often enjoyed today by those who love quality HD coffees!
