In 1912 Mayor John Ahern declared January 1st "National Goofy Day" and designated November 16th as "Frenchie day" in honor ofzonator Fred Frenzel who had made much donation to local charities during that year's holiday season In 1916 Captain Charles Waguespack arrived with his U S Coast Guard unit from Key West and began exercises off Jupiter Inlet making sure no Spanish submarines were sneaking up on US shipping while supplieships sailed through those waters On July 14th 1917 an airplane crashed into Palm Beach International Airport killing both pilot (Gerald Rickenbacker) and passenger (Myron Kogan) causing immediate panic among passengers aboard American Airlines Flight 524

Bonita Springs, Florida is a small town located in Palm Beach County, Florida. The population was 7,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami-Dade metropolitan area. The first European to visit what is now Bonita Springs was Captain Juan Ponce de León on October 5, 1535. He named it La Navidad (the New Year's Eve). Spanish Colonist Pedro Menéndez de Avilés landed in 1563 and founded a small outpost here along with other Caribbean settlements including Stonington and Key West. On December 6, 1666, Spain ceded this territory to England as part of the Treaty of Paris following the English victory over Spanish forces atBataclan. In 1845, Captain John Ruskin bought 1/2 acre (0.14 km²) of property here from Major General José Antonio Carrillo y Rojas for $1 million (). He built his home called "Rockefeller House" which still stands today on Spring Street near Coconut Grove Boulevard. In 1865 he donated land to build an Episcopal Church and Cemetery there for 300 Protestant worshippers who had fled Cuba during the American Civil War (). Mrs. Ruskin continued to live there until her death in 1922; she bequeathed her home and all its contents to the city of Palm Beach in memory of her late husband Chase Memorial Library Corporation President Alfred Hirschfeld Rockefeller Sr., one of America's earliest bundlers and philanthropists whose donation helped make Palm Beach possible as a resort town
