Today, the USAF presence in Boynton Beach is an important part of its global mission. This was after World War II when the US Air Force decided that it would need a new headquarters with space to store its various belongings and equipment. The first shipment of goods arrived on November 3rd, 1961- American clothing for RAF fighters in England! In 1966, USAAFE moved into its current location at Boynton Beach Airport which served as their Headquarters until 1990. Since then there have been numerous upgrades and expansions made to this large property including a new Command Post Building that opened in 2007! The 184th Airlift Wing was activated on 1 November 1945 as the 184th Bombardment Squadron at Kelly Field, Texas. The squadron flew Northrop P-38 Lightning pilots from World War II until its disbanding inactivate on 15 March 1946. On 2 October 1957, the 185th Bomber Squadron was activated at Boynton Beach Municipal Airport as part of NORAD's air defense organization for Florida's Panhandle region. The squadron operated Lockheed F-104 Starfighters through most of its career until it was inactivated on 30 September 1973 when all U.S.-based fighter squadrons were consolidated into NORAD's Continental United States Forces command structure under the command of First Lieutenant General Merrill McDavid. On 4 May 1984, the 186th Flying Training Unit (FTV) was activated at Boynton Beach Municipal Airport as part of USAF Fighter Weapons School program changeover from Republic F-86 Sabres to North American F-15E Strike Eagles effective 1 July 1984. The unit became operational with new jet trainers and continues training today using Lockheed Martin F/A-18 Hornets and Boeing E/A Joint Strike Fighters."

The area that makes up Boynton Beach was originally part of Fort Lauderdale, which was merged into Miami on July 15, 1898. Boynton Beach is named after Rear Admiral Henson C. Boynton who served as U.S. Naval Attache to Great Britain from 1944 to 1947 and then as Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence at Headquarters U.S. Pacific Fleet from 1951 to 1954 The first post office opened in Boynton Beach on May 25, 1916 and it continued serving until it closed on December 5, 1960 According to the United States Census Bureau, Boynton Beach has a total area of , of which is land and (2%) is water As of the census[1] of 2010, there were 508,046 people living inboynton beach city limits according to the 2011 American Community Survey 1). There are also 3 unincorporated communities within boyton beach city limits: Boca Raton (pop 9), Jupiter (pop 10), and Cutler Bay (pop 11). These three communities had a combined population of 855 people as of 2000 according to USGS aerial imagery . There are many businesses that operate out of town due to its close proximity by both Interstate 95 (/ I-95 exit 191) and Causeway Boulevard/State Road A1A/US 1A . At that time, theAAF was formed from a conglomeration of various military forces and groups that were united under one banner-the Allied Expeditionary Forces. The AAF was tasked with waging war against Nazi Germany and its allies, including Japan. As part of this effort, theAAF developed unique gifts for its members in order to show their support. Some of these gifts included planes and pilots, tanks and artillery, or even uniforms. Over time, theAAF also became known for its distinctive air force Deployment Gifts program. This program allowed members to send directly items such as clothing, books, tools, food and other supplies to service members stationed abroad. In addition to being a heartfelt gesture, these gifts helped build morale among troops stationed overseas and helped promote troop growth within theAFC.
