Boynton Beach, Florida is a city in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. Boynton Beach is located on Palm Beach Boulevard and Old Boynton Road. The first Europeans to visit what would become Boynton Beach were Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524 and Captain John Smith in 1607. The town site was surveyed by Colonel James Moore in 1779, but no action took place until 1827 when an act of Congress created the District of South Palm Beach. In 1835, the town included what are now portions of Broward and Palm Beach counties when it became a separate county under US President Andrew Johnson. In 1893, Confederate General Poultney Grant moved his family to Boynton beach after being driven out of Fort Pierce by Union troops during the American Civil War.
