In 1795 French explorer Jacques Marquette discovered Pensacola Bayou (later known as Don Carlos bayou) which led to French settlement there in 1802 and eventually lead to annexation into Spain by that nation in 1898 after its victory over American forces at Palo Alto Bridge during the Mexican–American War (1846–48). As a result, much valuable Spanish property passed through American hands before being sold back to Spain following World War II as part of a peace treaty ending that conflict. It wasn't until 1876 when Jacksonville presented an application for incorporation with landlying limits within what is now Downtown Bradenton that plans began for what would become modern day Bradley County. On November 3rd, 1876, Jacksonville submitted its application with 91 acres included within current day Downtown Bradley Park! This was only possible because Jacksonville had already acquired 2/3rds plus title to all future land within our boundaries! By 1900 most everyone living within modern day downtown Bradley park including criminals and prostitutes had fled southward towardsJacksonville making way for white settler families who built homes around what would later become State Road 84 (SR 84), still extant today as one endpoints Interstate 95/US 41 corridor
