The Coast Guard has had a presence in the area around Cape Canaveral, Florida since the early 1800s. The first coast guard post was established at Canaveral Aerodrome on Long Island in 1840. The first Coast Guard Station was located just outside of Cape Canaveral on Clearwater Island in 1851. In 1906, the U.S. Coast Guard acquired land at Eglin Air Force Base and built its present-day Headquarters there in 1937. This location allowed for better coordination between the various branches of the Coast Guard and made it possible to respond quickly to emergencies or threats to maritime safety near and inside Cape Canaveral National Seashore. In 1984, the Coast Guard Academy opened at Cape Canaveral and needed an access road into town from Highway 1 which led from Indian River County into Brevard County. The State Road Department donated their old airport runway which is now used as part of Headquarters Drive and is also used by many businesses as a parking lot for their vehicles. Today, the Coast Guard provides law enforcement services to state and local governments; conducts searchandrescue operations; responds to earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, terrorism/vandalism; participates in international missions including those conducted under United Nations command;and more!

Cape Canaveral is a small town in Brevard County, Florida, United States. It is located on the eastern shore of Cape Canaveral, at 38°14′19″N - 81°11′48″W. The town was founded by white settlers in 1868 and it became a U.S. Naval Air Station (NAS) in 1959. NAS Cape Canaveral currently hosts the Space Shuttle program and otherNASA launches and operations. In recent years, private companies have built large businesses near or within NAS Cape Canaveral: SpaceX, Blue Origin LLC, Northrop Grumman Corporation, Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), Orbital ATK Missile Systems Inc., Lockheed Martin Missiles & Space Company, Airbus Group SA's A350 passenger jets plant and others. Today NAS Cape Canaveral is one of the most important military launch sites in the world with many launches taking place from here including satellite missions such as those by NASA's GOES-13 mission which sent pictures back to Earth every day for three years; NATO's Operation Allied Shield which consisted of launching ten Sentinel satellites to protect Europe against ballistic missiles; numerous Navy surface Warfare Squadron deployments; Delta Force's secretive SEAL Team 6 raids into Pakistan duringOperation Neptune Spear; as well as more recently Antares rockets being used to loft cargo services into orbit for NASA’s International Space Station (ISS). The original landing strip at NAS Cape Canaveral was just a few hundred yards long but over time its size has increased as runway extensions were constructed nearby including an east-west runway that can accommodate widebodied planes like Boeing 747s and Airbus A380s while also providing access to larger jets such as the McDonnell Douglas MD-10 series airplanes that are now commonplace at NAS cape canaveral airport The original launch complex was designed to house only six Launch Vehicles: Atlas V Launchers 2 through 4 launched from Spaceport Complex 40B on Complex Bay 1A adjacent to Launch Center 3M/ODRMS/3LF. These Launch Vehicles would then be parkedhere until they were needed again—perhaps for another day or two when their propellant stores would be replenished—and then would be flown back out to Complex Bay 1A for reuse! This arrangement continued until May 5th 1986 when First Lieutenant Don Wade--the first American human everto fly inside a Russian cosmodrome vehicle called Progress 39--launched Sovetov Gemini 8 from Site No 7 on Complex Bay 1A using Delta IV Heavy vehicles! As soon as this event occurred there was much speculation about who flew what plane where from what platform! Unfortunately for all involved nothing came of this speculation...except that we still remember Don Wade today!"
The Coast Guard has been providing service to the public since 1795. The first organized coast guard unit was formed on November 3, 1795 at Fort George G. Meade in Maryland. The Coast Guard currently operates over 120,000 acres of coastline and is responsible for keeping the seas safe by patrolling 1,500 miles of ocean coastline. The Coast Guard’s first gift was a lantern that could be used as a signal fire from ship to shore. In 1845, an oil lamp was gifted to the Coast Guard for use aboard vessels. In 1912, a Supply vessel called “Caledonia” was donated by Mrs. John Davenport Fenton and her husband Charles Aiken Fenton II along with USS “Caledonia” (LHD-3) as a gift to the Coast Guard. In 1938, two lifeboats were gifted to the Coast Guard in honor of Admiral Chester Nimitz and his wife Frances Weymouth Nimitz who had served in World War II as Commander-in-Chief Naval Forces Pacific Fleet and Vice Admiral Chief of Staff United States Fleet Atlantic Command respectively. In 1951, three military surplus warships were gift donations from Great Britain in commemoration of America's entry into World War II: HMS Victory (AO1), HMS Repulse (AK7), and HMS Hermes (AG5). Since its inception in 1951, every Christmas has seen at least one new donation from either Great Britain or another country make its way into our fleet: USS Constitution Museum Ship SSN-853 sailed into Charleston harbor on December 15th; USS Kidd Museum Ship SSN-953 arrived at Newport News naval base on January 25th; Antonio Garcia Reyes Museo de la Marina del Puerto Rico donated two tugboats - Tugboat USNS "Antonio Garcia" (TU1) and Tugboat USNS "Alvaro Vizcaino" (TU2) - back after being scrapped by the Japanese navy during World War II; USS Ponce MuseumShip SSN-903 made its way through Customs when it arrived at Miami International Airport on February 4th; HMCS Caribou brought in additional supplies for coastal patrol boats following Hurricane Irma!
