The National Guard of Florida is a volunteer force made up of citizens who are drafted into the military at any time during their lifetime. The first national guard unit was organized in Cape Canaveral, Florida on September 11, 1955. At that time, the guard consisted of only men and was called the "Cape Canaveral National Guard." Today, the Cape Canaveral National Guard includes over 30 units and 2,000 individuals from throughout the state. The guard is responsible for a variety of tasks including security at state institutions such as courthouses and prisons; providing law enforcement services in local communities; and welcoming visitors to Port Canaveral. The capecanaanationalguard has been an important part of our community since 1955. We have helped make Cape Canaveral one of the most secure areas in Florida and we continue to provide our service today!

The Cape Canaveral Air Force Station is a spaceport located in Jacksonville, Florida which is the home of United Launch Alliance's [ULA] Delta IV Heavy launch vehicle. The airfield was first used by the USAF from World War II until it was leased to NASA in 1962. The site has been extensively renovated and Progress spacecraft have landed at the complex on four separate occasions. The original airfield had two runways, each measuring 5,000 feet (1,500 meters) wide and parallel to each other. It served as a staging area for launches from both Canaveral Island and Space Center Point on the mainland. In 1961, NASA leased an additional 2,000 acres (810 hectares) of land adjacent to the present-day airfield for use as their space center - making Cape Canaveral one of only three sites in the US where such a facility could be constructed without prior USAF agreement or coordination. In 1969, when Apollo 11 became history with Neil Armstrong becoming the first human being to walk on Earth afterBuzz Aldrin became his co-pilot and Michael Collins piloted Eagle while Neil Armstrong conducted his first lunar landing mission, Cape Canaveral came into full use as America's new space playground. With EELV launches now taking place from Vandenberg AFB outside Santa Barbara County,[2] this era will come vividly alive again when Falcon 9 rocket launches take place from there later this year! Space Shuttle Atlantis Race Day: A Look Back! It was July 20th , 1991 that America’s newest spacefaring nation took flight; American aerospace manufacturer Boeing made its maiden voyage into orbit aboard Space Shuttle Atlantis (Eagle). This great momentous occasion saw First Lieutenant Jeffrey Ladd become just one of many astronauts flown into orbit by these venerable vehicles over a period spanning more than 25 years since they were founded – beginning with Enterprise in 1981! Now coming up on 10 years since our last shuttle mission—and 4 months since Atlantis lifted off from Kennedy International Airport—we thought it might be fun to revisit some key highlights associated with those historic flights! Cape Canaveral is a small town in Brevard County, Florida, United States located on the Cape Canaveral Peninsula. It is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Windsor Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 8,826 at the 2000 census. The land that now makes up Cape Canaveral peninsula was first settled by Native Americans in 1795. A small fort was built there in 1827 and named Fort Caroline after Princess Caroline of England. The fort served as a trading post forigator boats and other vessels sailing between Miami and Key West before it was destroyed by a hurricane in 1853. In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln approved plans for an airfield to be developed at the site, which later became known as Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (later KSC). In 1962, when John F Kennedy visited KSC during his presidential campaign, he announced that America would soon have a space program and asked Congress to appropriate money to build an airbase at the cape so America could launch astronauts into orbit. On July 20, 1966–the day after he took office–Kennedyactivated KSC with its first launch: American astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first human being to walk on Earth while living inside an orbiting spacecraft
