The United States Army was founded in 1775, and the first military unit stationed in Cape Coral was the 1st Regiment of Dragoons on May 10, 1815. The regiment served until 1846 when it disbanded. The 1st Regiment of Infantry arrived in Cape Coral in 1861 and served until 1865. In 1898, the 1st Cavalry Regiment arrived from Fort Worth, Texas and served until 1902. The 2nd Cavalry Regiment arrived from Fort Worth in 1903 and served until 1917 when it was disbanded. The 3rd Infantry Regiment arrived from Fort Myers, Florida in 1922 and served until 1945 when it was disbanded. The 4th Infantry Regiment arrived from Ft Myers in 1948 and serve until 1957 when it also disbandd. In 1959, the 5th Infantry Regiment arrive from Ft Myers and serve until 1966 when it is also disbanded. In 1967/1968, the 6th Infantry Battalion arrives from Ft Myers with support of USMC helicopter Squadron V-22B Wild Weasel which becomes operational on October 8th 1968 under command of Lieutenant Colonel John Jeyburne (USMC) as part of Operation Neptune’s Spear III during the Vietnam War On October 30th 1969 a detachment of Marines attached to Station Aviation Support Unit (SASU) were airlifted onto Camp Lejeune Naval Air Station for operations against North Vietnam

The United States Army has stationed troops in Cape Coral, Florida since 1898. In the late 1800s, a small fort was built on the site of today's Fort Myers Naval Base. The fort was used to store supplies and artillery for the heavy fighting during the Spanish-American War. After that war, the US military began to build stores and barracks at Fort Myers Naval Base. In 1907, Fort Myers Naval Base became an airfield and by 1959 it had become one of America's largest naval bases. The base is now home to US Navy Fleet Operations Command (NHC) as well as various supporting units including Support Squadron 515 which provides support for submarines operating in the Gulf of Mexico.
Cape Coral, Florida is a city located in Lee County, Florida. The population was 38,773 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lee County and is the largest city on the Everglades Peninsula. The area around Cape Coral was first settled by Native Americans in what is now central Lee County in 1835. In 1841, Captain John Sutter founded the town of Fort Sutter on Santa Rosa Island east of Cape Coral and named it for him. The first post office in Cape Coral opened on September 12, 1845. By 1870, there were over 150 businesses operating in downtown Cape Coral with a population of 3,000 people. In 1907, the Miami-Dade Railway extended from Miami to Cape Coral and started service through Cape Coral. This made cape coral an important commercial center which continued until after World War II when it slowly lost its importance as a shipping point due to increased travel times to Miami and other cities along the Gulf Coast. Today, cape coral remains an important center for trade with its many factories and businesses that produce various goods such as fishing gear, construction materials and automobiles among others. Many residents also commute into larger metropolitan areas including Miami or Jacksonville for work purposes or for shopping opportunities outside of their town limits. Cape Coral, Florida is a city located on the Gulf of Mexico in Lee County, Florida. The population was 27,693 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The first inhabitants of Cape Coral were Indian scouts and friendly natives who helped American forces during World War II. They builtECKville—a small settlement on Tampa Bay that still exists and is home to the University of South Alabama—in 1942 as a remote outpost in support of American troops fighting in Europe. In 1945, Cape Coral became an incorporated municipality with a population of 10 people. In 1978, Cape Coral opened its port to increased international trade which led to job growth for locals and new investment in the community by businesses such as Mastercard and JBL Sachs. The city's economy grew rapidly through high-quality jobs and tax receipts that supported municipal services such as libraries, schools, fire suppression and trash collection. By 2000, Port Canaveral had become America's main container port handling more than $100 billion worth of cargo traffic annually while serving as a feeder port for larger vessels docking at Miami International Airport. However, Hurricane Andrew destroyed much infrastructure within days after landfall late in Andrew's path including most businesses along First Coast Boulevard (now US 1) between Andrews Air Force Base south of town and Pasco County Line north of town; both commercial areas have seen significant rebuild activity since then with some expansion taking place into adjacent neighborhoods not served by either or both arterial roads/streets (e.g., Brushy Point). As result many residents who lived near I-4 outside downtown are now forced uphill during storms due to blimpdamaged streets created when I-4 was reconstructed from scratch following Sandy’s devastating storm surge damage across parts of eastern Duval County also affecting portions or all seven municipalities nearest I-4: Belle Glade/Pinellas Park/St Petersburg Beach/Clearwater Beach/Tampa Hillsborough Park; capecoral business owners remain unaffected but their customers may be impacted until reconstruction work resumes proper access routes
In 1855, the first European to set foot on what is now Cape Coral was Captain John F. Kennedy of the U.S. Navy's USS Constitution. The town was founded by Captains Hurd and Worth in 1859, and its first post office opened in 1861. In 1865, a hurricane destroyed much of Fort Myers and much of Southwest Florida, including Cape Coral; however, the town not only survived but grew rapidly. By 1890, it had a population of over 7,000 people. The first electric streetlight was installed in 1895 and the first telephone line went into service in 1897. The city built its first library in 1902 and its first hospital in 1911. In 1945, Cape Coral became an all-white city when African Americans were desegregated from public education across the United States; however, this decision was repealed two years later when blacks were re-integrated into the community through various measures such as affirmative action programs administered by local governments throughout South Florida. In 1966–1967, while Hurricane Andrew pounded southeastern South Florida with winds up to 175 miles per hour (295 kilometers per hour), Cape Coral saw one of the most disastrous floods ever inflicted on that region: an estimate puts peak damage at more than $50 million dollars ($500 million today). More than 1 million people were forced out of their homes; many businesses lost entire contents or suffered total destruction—yet nothing could stop downtown from quickly rebuilding with little loss to property values or business efficiency overall More recently, as part of efforts to improve infrastructure for future storms such as Irma and Maria—the City has undertaken extensive work on resurfacing streetscape items such as sidewalks and curb cuts; installation of storm water management systems; widening streetscapes for easy passage during high tides; construction of new parks/landscapes near Downtown and along Airport Boulevard—and recent repairs to aging roadsways have helped make downtown look "brand new."
