The Naval History and Heritage Command's (NHHC) Memory of the Navy program preserves the history of the United States naval forces through commemoration and education. The Memory of the Navy program includes many different programs that help preserve navy-related artifacts and memories. One such program is the Deployed Gift Histories Program. This program allows sailors, marines, Coast Guard personnel, their families, friends, and others to donate items from their military service in order to help improve navy morale and provide a lasting legacy for all involved. The first Deployed Gift Histories Program was organized in 1984 as a way to support Fleet Marine Force (FMF) morale by donating items from USMC members stationed atoll locations around Southeast Asia. The benefits of this program have included helping FMF officers maintain better relationships with their troops, providing morale-boosting items for local businesses, and even being used as an opportunity to connect with family members who are living overseas. In recent years, NMHP has broadened its reach to include Sailors from other branches of the US Military as well as civilians who may have military ties outside of their home country or state. NMHP accepts many types of donations including personal effects (items such as uniforms or pictures), equipment (such as boats or vehicles), books, software products/services, artwork/movies/TV shows/music albums etc., photos etc., along with any memorabilia related to a sailor's military service experience. NOAH also offers various donor recognition programs which allow donors an opportunity to receive special recognition such as awards or commendations from NMHP staff. In 1984, Congress passed the Naval Vessel Reform Act which authorized the addition of submarine-launched cruise missiles (SLBM) to the Navy’s inventory. The SLBM program was initially designed to provide a new way for the Navy to attack targets deep inside enemy territory – something that had never been done before! Since their inception, naval submarines have served countless countries in both wars and peacekeeping missions around the world. They continue to be used today in many different ways including conducting counterterrorism operations; providing humanitarian assistance;and playing a critical role in our defense against aggression from abroad and from within our own borders!

In 1821, the first permanent European settlement in South Florida was made at Fort Myers by Capt. Edward Orlando and his men. The area that is now Cape Coral was part of this original settlement. The area became a part of the United States in 1827 when it was added to the Florida Territory. In 1840, a post office called Fort Myers began serving Cape Coral and nearby communities. The development of citrus groves in the area led to rapid growth in the population of Cape Coral and its surrounding areas during the 1920s and 1930s. This growth continued through World War II, during which time much of what is now Cape Coral was destroyed by bombing raids from Japan. After the war, however, businesses started up again and construction began on new homes and businesses throughout the community. Today, Cape Coral is one of south-central Florida’s most popular tourist destinations for residents and visitors alike due to its rich history, beautiful scenery, friendly people, convenient location, and wide range of cultural experiences available.
Cape Coral is a city in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 24,711 at the 2010 census. The area that is now Cape Coral was first settled by Seminole Indians in the 17th century. In 1843, Colonel John Crain bought land from the Indians and founded what is today Cape Coral as a town on the site of an old Indian trading post. In 1861, after Fort Taylor was destroyed during the American Civil War, General Andrew Jackson moved his army through Cape Coral to briefly take possession of Tampa Bay before retreating to Mobile. The Battle of Fort Jackson took place on November 11–12, 1861 near present-day downtown Cape Coral. After the battle, General Jackson's force passed through Cape Coral and its vicinity and marched north to Tallahassee. On December 12th 1861 Captain James McMillan of HMS "Dolphin" anchored off modern day Winter Park when he sighted a group of Seminoles travelling south in canoes with their horses and saddles on frames made from trees standing along Wakulla Creek. This landing became known as "The Massacre". In 1868 Congress authorized construction of Fort Brooke which stood on abandoned federal property northwest of cape coral until 1897 when it was surrendered by US forces to Cuba during their time under Fidel Castro's leadership while they were trying to overthrow Cuban President Fulgencio Batista. The fort remained sacked for years until finally being dynamited by Cubans against US military targets inside Cuba on October 21st 1959 as part of their successful revolution which ousted Batista and started the Cold War between America and Russia/ communist Cuba
