Casselberry, Florida is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. Casselberry is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater metro area and is home to the University of South Florida. The town was founded in 1919 by W.J. Giddens and his family as a citrus packing and marketing center on land that they had purchased from Big John Hargrave. The name comes from an Indian word meaning "place where two trees stand together." Giddens built a grocery store and post office in the town, which served as its first business district. In 1925, he built a small railroad station near the present day intersection of US Highway 41 and US Highway 441 for passengers traveling between Tampa and Clearwater. In 1960, Casselberry voters approved creating a city status for the town with full powers to operate its own government includingpolice department, fire Department, library system, school system, etc.. On January 25th of that year Casselberry City officials officially opened their doors to residents after more than 50 years of planning and construction. Casselberry has seen many changes over the years; some recent include: In 2002 Kasim Reed announced he would be running for Mayor against incumbent Donny Clements. The race quickly evolved into a close battle with both candidates making final campaign appearances in early October2002 before voting began November 3rd. Ultimately Clements won by less than 100 votes but Kasim Reed received widespread recognition for his run. In 2011 candidate Rickie Lambert ran against incumbent Donny Clements for mayor again but lost by just over 200 votes.
After Lambert’s loss, Councilman Rickie Lambert announced he will not seek re-election on December 12th due to personal reasons.

Casselberry post office was established on December 17, 1892, and closed on March 16, 1974. The Casselberry Manufacturing Company was founded in 1902 by John P. Casselberry was founded in 1887 by J.W. Cassel and James A. Brown, two of the early cattle ranchers in Florida. The community grew rapidly during the late 1800s due to its location on a long stretch of fertile land that offered good grazing for cows and horses. The first town hall was built in Casselberry in 1899, and the first school was opened in 1903. In 1916, Casselberry became an incorporated village with a board of trustees and a mayor/council system. During World War II, Casselberry served as one of several military installations around Florida providing food, water, ammunition and other supplies to troops fighting on both sides of the war. After the war ended, the population declined but continued to grow thanks to waves of immigrants who came to Florida during the post-war period. By the end of the 20th century,Casselberry had become one ofFlorida's most popular tourist destinations thanks to its grand old buildings, historic sites and interesting people
