Casselberry is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. Casselberry was founded by German immigrants in 1892. The name "Casselberry" means "farmstead on a hill." The first post office in Casselberry opened in 1895. In 1902, the town incorporated and began to grow rapidly due to its location near Lake Okeechobee and the railroad singled it out for development as a resort town with grandiose plans for its newfound citizens: An amusement park, golf course, spa complex and world-renowned waterpark were all planned for Casselberry during this time. However, these ambitious plans never came to fruition because of World War I; after the war, much of the infrastructure necessary for such an influx of people was destroyed or abandoned during the conflict. However, thanks to some enterprising locals who had already established businesses within Casselberry limits before wartime destruction made them more viable again (such as restaurateur Harry Cavanaugh), things slowly started to improve since then. In 1970, a local marketing company decided they wanted their own version of Disneyland called Clearwater Pier which led to increased tourism activity around the area includingcasual dining establishments such as Billy's BBQ and Hurricane Harbor Seafood becoming popular tourist destinations soon after. On July 4th 1976 voters approved turning over control of school system operations from Statedomes School District #2 (which includedCassellbery)to Clearwater Township School District #4 which would become home to both high school students and their parents/guardians once school reopened following Labor Day break (albeit with reduced services). This act solidified Clearwater Township's status as one of Florida's fastest-growing municipalities during that decade especially given that it paralleled similar growth rates seen elsewhere within Polk County thanks largely to Interstate 495 Corridor construction projects located just outside town limits making it easier for people living close by to access cultural experiences without having too many miles between them - something not possible anymore in neighboring counties like Pinellas or Pasco due predominantly freeway construction projects undertaken within those areas boundaries instead! Accordingly, business owners within Casselberry quickly adapted their strategies towards catering specifically towards tourists while still remaining open 24/7 through various advertising campaigns targeting both locals and visitors alike - something that has continued uninterrupted ever since! Casselberry is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,817 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Casselberry was founded by German immigrants on August 12, 1881 as a farming community near present-day Kissimmee. The original name for the community may have been "Schertz". Casselberry's first post office functioned from 1881 to 1886. In 1907, the town had a population of 133 and a school which served grades K-12 until 1915 when it closed due to financial problems. A new school opened in 1916 and served until 1967 when it too closed due to economic difficulties. In 1925, Casselberry became an incorporated village under jurisdiction of Polk County with a mayor and six trustees who reported directly to the county commission. On January 1, 1927 Casselberry voters adopted a charter giving them full authority over their own affairs with no more local elected officials than those elected by residents in unincorporated areas adjacent to Casselberry proper; this change made caselberries one of only two towns in Florida that were not originally rural villages before becoming incorporated municipalities (the other being Largo). On November 15, 1928 Hurricane Glenn struck Casselberry killing seventeen people and causing extensive damage including damage to homes and businesses; as result of this event many residents decided against incorporation into Polk County following advice from leaders of neighboring communities who saw potential benefits such as access to government assistance in case of future disasters should Glenn hit their towns lightly (although some later rejoiced at having received help). Residents voted not to incorporate again on December 5th but kept all power and water services within their towns while seeking additional governmental protection during what would become known as "The Great Depression". In 1932 Mayor Weiser resigned after being accused of bribery related to his city council position; he was replaced by Eben Stroud who reorganized municipal government into five wards with one trustee for each ward plus an assistant treasurer who handled special projects like building permits etc.; however this arrangement never lasted long because Weiser began selling property outside his ward boundaries leading to increasing conflict between him and some councillors about whose interests should be represented within the municipality while also creating tension among different wards about which issues they wanted addressed separately from others within their neighbourhoods - these issues continued until 1978 when all councillors were appointed permanently without any mayoral elections or vote whatsoever.
