Casselberry is a town in Seminole County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,748 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Casselberry was founded by John Cassel and his wife Eliza on February 12, 1853 as a town in Soochowee Township. The name "Casselberry" was taken from an early settler's name which means "place where the beech trees grow." The first post office in Casselberry opened on October 16, 1857. The first store in Casselberry was established by Wm.[?] Hogg on December 7, 1858. A sawmill and gristmill were built in 1861-1862 by Pritchard & Son. In 1865, Jno.[?], James [Jr.] and their families bought the land east of present day Cassell Boulevard from Fenton Brothers for $1 million dollars. They named their new community Cassellborough after John's brother Jameson who had helped advise them about the location when they were looking for a place to settle down. A school district was formed in 1916 with headquarters located at 249 North Main Street until it merged into Pinellas County Schools in 1998; then it moved to its current location across from Lake Nona Park on State Road 53B/U Parkway near Kissimmee Lakeshore Resort & Spa on December 1st of that year. At that time all schools within Pinellas County were consolidated into one entity making it easier to manage finances and consolidate services amongst different schools while still maintaining individual names and building identification numbers (BIN). In 2002-2003 an additional wing - known as Treehouse School -was added adjacent to Stadium Drive off Stadium Drive Southnear US Highway 441 (now SR 53B)and became operational Fall 2003 with Pre K through 2nd Grade students residing there along with instruction for grades 3-8 inclusive also housed there during summer months prior to reopening under new name “Lake Nona Park Elementary School” following consolidation between Polk County Schools District #2 (northwest side of Kissimmee lakeshore resort) & Pasco County Schools District #4 (south side of lakeshore resort) . Today Treehouse School portion remains operational separate from Lake Nona Park Elementary School although sharingsame BIR & Campus Location
