The Clearwater Air Force Base gift history begins in the early 1940s with the arrival of Colonel Angus McKinnon and his United StatesAAF flying unit, The Blue Angels. Colonel McKinnon was instrumental in starting the air force base and building its first squadron, The 1st Bomb Group. In 1946, the United StatesAAF activated The 36th Fighter Wing at Clearwater AFB and began to field medium bombers. In 1951, The 1st Tactical Fighter Wing arrived at Clearwater AFB and became operational with Republic F-105 Thunderchiefs. By 1957, one wing had been established per continent on two bases! In 1975, when it became clear that Andersen AFB would be closed after more than 50 years of service as a military base, the USAF gifted ownership of Clearwater AFB to the City of Clearwater for use as an urban airport. This event marked a turning point inClearwater's aviation history as it now played host to both commercial airlines and military aircraft from all over the world. Clearwater, Florida is a town located in Pasco County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. Clearwater is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Combined Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Clearwater were the Spanish in 1565 and 1566 when they explored the area. It was surveyed for a naval base in 1824 by Captain John Stroud and named San Miguel de la Laguna after his patron saint. The name changed again in 1836 to Fort Pierce because of jurisdictional issues between Tampa Bay and Miami – Fort Pierce was on Tampa Bay while San Miguel de la Laguna was on Miami's mainland coast. In 1845 Clearwater became an incorporated city with jurisdiction over all of Pasco County save forSt Petersburg which had been given to that city by King Ferdinand IV of Spain as part of a land grant. The first white settler arrived in Clearwater on October 4, 1846, by boat from TampaBay with 54 passengers including six men who traveled downriver on canoes and five women and their children who disembarked at Forts Pierce and De Soto Keys near present-day Port Moselle before continuing upriver along present-day US 92/US 301 until reaching Clearwater Harbor where they landed about 10 miles (16 km) east of what is now downtown Clearwater. A smallpox epidemic which struck the region killed more than 60 people in November1848; most likely brought about by contact with imported European diseases such as smallpox which then spread through trade between local Native American populations inhabiting this area In 1862 Jacksonville annexed Clearwater under its new county government; however, Jacksonville never developed enough businesses or residents to warrants its own municipality status separate from Pasco County On July 1, 1907, Clearwater merged into Lakeland with other cities within Pasco County to form the Kissimmee metropolitan area ; however annexation requests continue to be made today On December 12th 2009 City fathers voted 3-2 not annexing neighboring towns Hernando Beach or Sarasota due to concerns that annexation would harm their economies

Clearwater is a city in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 21,851 at the 2010 census. The name of Clearwater comes from the Arabic word meaning "clear" or "pure". The city's first settler was Augustus C. Smith, who arrived in 1837 and named his new town after his native Clearwater River. Smith's heirs sold the land to John A. Richardson in 1845. Richardson built the first school in Clearwater in 1846 and laid out streets and public squares. He also organized a volunteer fire department and founded the Clear water Bank as a commercial institution to promote trade with other parts of Florida. In 1865, Richardson donated an acre (0.8 hectare) of land on which he built what became known as City Hall Square, now home to several businesses including Pompano Beach Bars & Grill and Boca Raton Airport Marriott Hotel & Marina). In 1898, Clearwater became part of Miami-Dade County when it was created from portions of Miami-Dade, Broward County, and Palm Beach County. It continued to serve as its own municipality until 1959 when it merged with Dania Township to form Dania-Fort Lauderdale Municipal Corporation under Mayor James Koppelman's leadership (the merger was announced on August 8th by then-Mayor Carlos Gimenez). The city has since experienced rapid growth due to natural gas exploration and production activities along its coastlines and has become one of South Florida's most populous cities with over 25,000 residents as of 2020 according to Census Bureau estimates ; however much like any other city with increasing densities during this time period there have been many challenges faced such as crime rates continue falling even as property values rise while access to infrastructure remains difficult for many people living within walking distance or driving distance thereof !
