The Clearwater Army Depot is a world-renowned retailer of military equipment, apparel and supplies. The depot was established in 1925 as the Clearwater Arsenal. It became the Clearwater Army Depot when it was merged with Fort Dix Armory in 1978. In 1992, the depot was renamed the Clearwater Army Base. The base currently employs over 10,000 employees and stocks items for both active duty and reserve troops across 10 states. The military has been present in Clearwater since early Days. There were reports of American soldiers stationed here during World War I as part of the 1st Infantry Division’s “A” Squadron; they left after that war without ever Returning Home. However, there is evidence that Ft Dix (now clearwater armory) had been housing Military personnel since 1859 when General George Taylor donated land to be used for armory purposes on what is now known as Hwy 9 North near present day US 163). On October 3rd 1863, while still at Ft Dix, Major John Crain led 5th Regiment Maine Volunteer Infantry on an Expedition into Florida under command of Brigadier General Nathaniel Banks to Capture or Destroy Seminole Indians at Yalobusha Creek about 20 miles northeast of Tampa Bay.) Clearwater, Florida is a city in Escambia County, Florida, United States. The population was 7,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pensacola–Ferry Pass–butterfly area. Clearwater is an agricultural center and the primary commercial center for Escambia County. The foundation of Clearwater was laid by Captain John Stroud on August 24, 1821 as a landing place for French seamen who were exploring the mouth of the Apalachicola River. The first house in Clearwater was built by J.B. Bennett in 1827 on what is now US-412. During the antebellum period, Clearwater served as a stopover for steamboats travelling between Mobile Bay and Pensacola Bay before becoming an important whaling port during the 19th century. In 1840, vandals set fire to buildings in downtown Clearwater after breaking into them and stealing goods from local merchants; this event became known as "The Burning of Clearwater". In 1848, Colonel Nathan Bedford Forrest founded Fort Pillow on Mud Island which later became Fort Gibson within Escambia County limits; clear water flowed past what is now his military fort until it was diverted by developers in 1924 because of land speculation interests within Fort Pillow development rights inherited from his father-in-law General James Wilkinson Wallace Sr.. The town site that would become Clearwater originated when Colonel Forrest's cattle pasture ran alongside present day Gulf Highway while he owned title to over 1 million acres (500 km2) of swampy land along Mobile Bayou north of Pensacola proper including much of what today forms municipal boundaries for both cities: east side Biloxi Beach through Umatilla Park to Gulf Street/US-411 then east side Pensacola Beach through Orange Beach to SR 95 which presently runs concurrent with US-412 just south of its original terminus at A1A/Old Memorial Road). Many families who lived near where we now stand were forced out during hard times following Frazier's Raidsaura(1863), Indian Removal Act (1865), Civil War (1865), Reconstruction (1870–1912), Hurricane Andrew (1998) and numerous other natural disasters including wildfires caused by lightning activity on nearby Bald Cypress National Forest.: cleared land became developed residential areas such as Suncoast Boulevard SW & IH 10 Business Loop SW followed by small shopping centers like Sunocoast Mall located adjacent to Suncoast Boulevard & Gulf HWY., major tourist attractions such as Mardi Gras parade beginning 3pm each year down MLK Blvd., also new business expansions started Downtown such as Live Oak Hospitality Center - home entertainment complex anchored by Sleep Train Inn - recently opened adjacent downtown centered around One Maritime Plaza mall.- many businesses closed or moved away due too competition from highrise apartments resulting in less jobs available withinEscambia County marketplaces.; Today’s economy rests upon agriculture production with support coming chiefly from retail trade services provided primarily through anchored concentrations at local malls.- many manufacturing plants have been closed or relocated throughout history but some still operate today such as CF Industries Incorporated - largest employer – located just outside town limits across IH10 corridor close to major inland airport.- tourism provides significant job growth although not without challenges associated with large hotel occupancy rates especially during holiday seasons.;

Clearwater, Florida is a city located in Pinellas County, Florida. The population was 44,442 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Pompano Beach metropolitan area. Clearwater's history dates back to 1835 when two brothers founded Clearwater as an agricultural community on the mouth of the St. Johns River. The community grew rapidly and by 1850 it had a population of over 2,000 people. By 1865, Clearwater had become a booming port town with businesses including wharves and warehouses handling goods from all over the United States and Europe. In 1886, Clearwater became one of four municipalities in Pinellas County that were consolidated with nearby Plant City to form what would eventually be called Pinellas County.[1] During World War IIClearwater played an important role in both the military and shipping industries thanks to its location at the mouth of the St. Johns River and its access to salt water supplies.[2] The city also experienced rapid growth after World War II due to new development such as shopping malls, hospitals, and factories; however, economic decline began to set in during the late 1960s as manufacturing jobs deserted Clearwater for newer job centers outside of Florida[3]. Growth resumed during the 1990s as downtown replaced older industrial buildings with new mixed use developments; however, suburbanization once again began to take hold in 2000 as developers built subdivisions within easy reach of Interstate 495.[4] Today Clearwater is known for its mild climate (average monthly temperatures range from 81 degrees Fahrenheit during summer months up into 90 degrees Fahrenheit), Its beautiful beaches (including well-known Anacostia Beach), its wide variety of cultural attractions (the Tampa Bay Ballet rehearses here year-round), and its vibrant nightlife scene which features some of America's most popular clubs such as Di Scala's nightclub or Joe's Bar & Grill
In the early 1800s, Clearwater was an important fishing and trading port on the Florida Keys. Many of the early settlers in Clearwater were English fishermen who came to the Keys in search of rich seafood stocks. The first permanent residents of Clearwater were Huguenots who arrived in 1795. In 1821, Clearwater became a state town and was renamed after James K. Polk, then-president of the United States. The construction of Fort Myers (nowFort Myers Beach) began in 1825 and ended in 1828, during the Seminole War. During that time, Clearwater became one of the most important military points on the Florida Keys because it housed artillery batteries and supply depots for Fort Myers and Tampa Bay. In 1830, Captain John Fenton established a steamboat pier at Clearwater which allowed boats to navigate upriver to Key West without having to wait forLongboats filled with goods to come downriver from Havana. After Fort Myers was abandoned in 1835, much of this key commercial activity stopped as well. However, some fishing still took place until around 1850 when Prohibition made it difficult for many people to get licenses to fish commercially
