Coffee has been a part of the Florida culture for many years. In Clearwater, coffee gift history dates back to at least 1922 when two Dutchmen, Jan and Cornelis de Jongh, started brewing coffee in their home on First Street. The original Coffee Shop was located on Third Street and operated until 1949 when it moved to its current location on University Avenue. The shop served as a meeting place for the town's community and played an important role in the development of Clearwater. The first coffee roasters in Clearwater were Jan De Jongh and his son Cornelis De Jongh Jr. This early morning ritual helped start the day with a cup of coffee before getting things done around town. Afternoon traffic was usually light because people would come into town for lunch then head off to work or school. When it became nighttime, people would gather around the Coffee Shop for some quality time before starting their day again. In recent years, there have been several changes to how coffee is consumed in Clearwater. One change is that more people are now drinking tea instead of coffee because tea is more filling and provides multiple antioxidants than coffee does. Additionally, there has been a shift towards lighter-colored coffees which can be easier to find in stores these days so customers can easily differentiate between different types of beans while enjoying a good cup of Joe! In honor of all that Clearwater has stood for over the years, we are honoring Jan and Cornelis De Jongh by naming one of our newest cafes after them – The Coffee ShopJanDeJongh café! Clearwater is a town in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The population was 7,707 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Pompano Beach metropolitan area. Clearwater is located on the Gulf of Mexico and bordered by Fort Myers to the west and Dunedin to the east. The history of Clearwater stretches back over 350 years. The first Europeans to visit what is now Clearwater were Spanish explorers in 1528 who named it La Isla de la Tortuga (Island of Turtles). A small community developed around Point Comfort because there was little land available for farming in this area after being acquired by Spain from Native Americans during the 17th century. In 1834, Captain David Barron expedition explored and mapped much ofFlorida while under way from Pensacola to Key West; he named Point Comfort Bay after his surveyor, Samuel Barron. In 1892, Clearwater became a city when it was annexed by St Petersburg; its population then numbered 5,025. On November 4, 1925, it again became a city when it was combined with neighboring Dunedin to form Pinellas County; its population numbered 11,557 at that time according to US Census data (10% more than Pinellas County's current population). On January 1st 1958 clearway fished off shore opened for white water fishing using trolling lures only up until 1978 so people could catch big catfish without getting their hands dirty also starting today with all new gear which gives you more excitement when catching fish According to Clearwater historian Darrell Kelleher “the Town had always been an agricultural center” but due mostly to prohibition laws prohibiting alcohol sales throughout most of Florida during those days many farmers simply did not have enough money or space for distilling liquor into beer or wine instead they just produced cornmeal Meal mushurts as both alcohol and foodstuff This Prohibition era left many businesses closed down including one hotel that still stands today called The Commodore which operated out of business due mainly to lack of customers attracted by prohibition-era grandeur
