The name came from the fact that these stores could carry only fresh-roasted beans, which meant that they required no grinding or packaging. In 1957,Clearwater Coffee Company (now known as Starbucks) opened its first café and began serving ground coffee. The company quickly became wellknown throughout Clearwater for its delicious espresso drinks and great selection of pastries. Over time, Starbucks grew into one of the largest coffee companies in North America with over 2,000 cafes across 40 countries. In 2007, they announced plans to open their all-new Flagship Store in downtown Clearwater – one of only a few such stores to be built in Tampa Bay Area communities since it opened up shop statewide in 2002. This new store would feature state-of-the-art technology including digital signage and real glass walls to provide an even more immersive experience for customers. Clearwater is a city located in Pinellas County, Florida, United States. The population was 33,512 at the 2010 census. Clearwater is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The region that now includes Clearwater was first inhabited by the Calusa people who were expelled from their traditional home on the mainland by Spanish explorers in 1513. In 1692, English colonists arrived and founded St Petersburg on what is now Port Charlotte. By 1820, Clearwater had become a town in its own right and was included within Fort Myers as part of that military outpost's jurisdiction. In 1868, Clearwater incorporated as a city under the state of Florida. That same year saw another milestone for Clearwater when it became home to Tampa Bay's first electric light plant – erected on land donated by James Buchanan Polk in memory of his Vice President, Andrew Johnson – making it one of only two cities in Florida to do so. In 1926, the City Council designated an area along State Road 301 between US 1 and US 19A as "City Park" in honor of Mayor John Waddell who had spearheaded efforts to improve that stretch of roadway during his mayoral term from 1925-1929. The park continued to be used intermittently for public events until being placed within City limits as part of annexation into Clearwater proper in 1959; at which time it also became known simply as "City Park". Today City Park remains a popular destination for residents and tourists alike with its wide variety of recreational activities available including baseball (the Clearwaters play host to one summer season each year), football (the city hosts annual matches against nearby Hillsborough County) and water sports (such as swimming or fishing). Notwithstanding some persistent concerns about possible development adjacent to City Park - such as large tracts devoted exclusively to residential use - clear evidence suggests that no major redevelopment plans have ever materialized either inside or outside City Hall since incorporation; nor has there been any real effort made towards developing this important green space despite repeated calls from citizens and officials alike for more attention given its unique assets both literally within and far beyondcity boundaries...
