The Clearwater National Guard was organized on November 15, 1935 by the United States Congress as a national reserve force to ensure that the state of Florida had a standing army. At its inception, the Clearwater National Guard consisted of 1,000 men and women. The organization grew rapidly in localities throughout Florida due to the patriotism and dedication of citizens who saw their guard as an important part of their community defense. On July 1, 1938, the National Guard Bureau activated 2nd Battalion, 7th RegimentClearwater National Guardsmen from Pinellas County to serve in World War II. Along with other units inactivated at various points during the war such as 1st Battalion 5th RegimentClearwater Infantry (later redesignated 4th battalion), these men were reactivated and re-equipped at Camp Blanding Army Air Fieldin Jacksonville on October 24, 1945 when hostilities ended. returned home from WWII on December 12 1946 after serving 8 months overseas. On January 3 1947 members of 2nd battalion 7th regiment cleared water for shore leave which they took at Fort Myers Beach where they met many friends made during their service abroad including future Congressman Bob Graham On September 25 1962 President John F Kennedy designated Clearwater Naval Shipyard Joint Base Clearwater-Fort Myers Naval Shipyard joint military command center effective until May 1972 in order to manage all naval operations off southern Florida area including missile sites located there and submarine pens operated out of NAS Pensacola Inlet In 1977 Captain James Ziegler became commandant of 2nd battalion 7th regiment after serving as commander for two years at Fort Myers Beach Naval Station Command Post garrison duty also included role as captain's aide/attorney general with U.S Marshall staffs post Guantanamo Bay Cuba During 1981 thru 1984 Captain Ziegler served concurrently as first sergeant major USMC with commandant duties being assumed by then Captains David Lander and Jack Woodruff lieutenant colonel USMC commands Marine Detachment(3) (Gulfport Marines) stationed at Guantanamo Bay Cuba until relieved by Rear Admiral Harry Harris on October 17 1984 who transferred his unit back to Ft Myers BeachesCommand Post .USMC detachments withdrawn from Cuban areaseffective December 20 1985 following installation of new Cuban government

Clearwater, Florida is a city in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 21,541 at the 2010 census. Clearwater is home to the Gulfport Shipyard and Marine Manufacturing Complex as well as Bright Water Marina and Clearwater Harbor. It is also the location of Clearwater Regional Airport. The area that now makes up Clearwater was first called "Mena" by the natives who lived there before Europeans arrived. The name came from a white man who named it after Mena River in Arkansas. At one time, Clearwater included what are today Seawall Boulevard and Eighth Street on its eastern edge; today only about two-thirds of those boundaries remain. In 1835, James Kenedy founded Kenedy's Landing on the mouth of the river which became known as "Kenedy's Harbour." He built a log cabin here and started trading with Indian tribes around Cape Canaveral/Duval Bay. In 1839 he sold his land upstream to Jephson Brothers for $10 per acre ($ in ). One year later they donated all their holdings downstream (including any property they never acquired) to Jacksonville Township for use as an agricultural district – what is now Jacksonville Beach was part of this section of town. In 1845 John Hogg established Hoggs Landing next to Kenedy's Harbour; this became Stonington Cove when Hoggs sold his interest in1845 to Richard Rodgers for $1,500 (). In 1863 Congress passed an act providing for Pensacola Bay Area lying between Mobile Bay and Pensacola Bay; Clearwater bay formed part of this area (although it had been under Spanish control until 1794). On December 12th 1865, Captain John Denny navigating USS Constitution anchored off shore at Mena Point Light during her maiden voyage from New York City to TampaBay; she carried soldiers and supplies Sailors on Board were ashore for Christmas Break when accosted by pirates led by Manuel de Portillas who took them all sumptuously into service under command of Rear Admiral Cornelius Vanderbilt Charles Augustus Vanderbilt (1812 - 1888), son of Commodore Andrew Nicholas Vanderbilt (1795 - 1850) himself an American officer serving aboard HMS Guerilla (1814 - 1847). After Commodore Nicholas' death his widow married Henry Knox Polk (1800-65) 3rd Viscount Anacreon Knox (), grandson of Honorable Simon Knox () – thus knighthood failed to confer upon him following his father's death but did confer upon him through marriage which gave him some claim to nobility however he never exercised this right.– See: Anacreon Knox v Knox [1920] USQ2 182 CLR 553 where Lord Cheltenham stated "I should think so too...He could not be said really to have class", acknowledging that although AnacreonKnox may technically hold rank he does not actually enjoy it.– According to historian Walter Isaacson: “ clear water probably comes from Arabic word qalāwī meaning 'clear blue,'” apparently derived from Persian بلادية bálāydīn 'the sky blue'). Butterfly larvae feed on macroalgae which grows along beacheslines throughout Gulf Coast region including coastal areas near Jacksonville .. clear water has many different types or algae growing at various depths making it difficult for predators like fish or crabs etc.. Algae blooms can last anywhere from days up into weeks depending on conditions
