Clermont is a small city in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,513 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Monroe County. The Clermont area has been inhabited for more than 4,000 years and contains evidence of occupation dating back to the Paleo-Indian period. The first settlers in this area were French Huguenots who arrived during the 17th century. They developed a farmstead known as "Naulton" on what is now north side of town on US 10 just east of its junction with State Road 589 (now US 129). In 1825, they sold their holdings to James Wertz and his brother John Wertz. James Wertz founded the town of Clermont on land that he had purchased from the Seminole Indians in 1824. A post office called Clermont was established in 1827, and remained in operation until 1903. In 1850, Alpheus Phelps donated land near present-day downtown to make way for a new courthouse which would be built by local subscription project led by Revd Jeremiah Nolen between 1851 and 1852; it opened in October 1852 and became one of Orange County’s earliest public buildings. As part of this effort to provide economic development for nearby rural areas, Phelps also donated water rights for irrigation purposes about two miles northeast of downtown Clermont towards today’s intersection with SR 589 (now US 129). This donation helped lay the groundwork for later annexation into Orange County by Clermont Township effective January 1st 1870 when both townships were combined under one government structure as part of an effort to promote growth within newly created counties while preserving existing villages/townships etc.). The incorporation date for Clermont Township falls squarely within February 13th 1870 - less than three weeks after Orange County was formed - despite claims by some historians that there may have been other underlying reasons behind this timing including considerations surrounding possible boundary changes resulting from consolidation or political maneuvering within certain counties during that period! Today's Main Street remains almost exclusively residential due to its location adjacent to Phelps Park - located across SR 589 from where early pioneers farmed according to tradition - making it one of only a few remaining examples left from those halcyon days before modern highway construction made such locations quite difficult or impossible ohighly accessible even today! Due largely to increased population density due primarilyto agricultural production subsequent theretoclimbing real estate prices saw rapid growth especially along Miami Dade Boulevard clogging arteries creating gridlock typical SouthernFlorida phenomena !!!!!

Clermont, Florida is a city in the U.S. state of Florida and the county seat of Polk County. As of the 2010 census, Clermont had a population of 52,521. The name is derived from French and means "clear stream". It was founded by French colonists in 1794 as a result of land grants from Spain. The area now known as Clermont was first populated by Native American tribes who hunted and gathered resources near present-day Gainesville. The area became part of Spanish territory after 1665 when Hernando de Soto discovered what is now Polk County while exploring Tellico Bayou in present-day Jacksonville Territory. In 1794, the 1st territorial legislature authorized French colonists to establish an outpost at what is now Clermont Creek on 4 July 1794 under the name "Fort Caroline." The town began to grow quickly with settler arrivals over the next few years; by 1800, there were more than 100 inhabitants here. In 1808, Clermont became part of Miami County when it was created out of parts of Lakeland and Hardee counties. By 1810, some 7500 people lived in Miami County with 640 businesses and $1 million worth of property wealth according to county records. In 1818, boundary changes within Miami County resulted in part of Clermont becoming Polk County; since then, much development has occurred within its boundaries including the creation (in 1912) of University Park which surrounds downtownClermont today. As rapidly as growth had ensued during early 19th century America's fledgling Ephemeral Statehood process, so too did conflict arise between white settlers and aboriginal occupants: in 1830 an outbreak among Creeks/ Seminole Indians led to open warfare that lasted for eight months across five counties before finally concluding with no fatalities or damage reported on either side; this episode also signified a watershed moment for South Florida's indigenous population who would undergo multiple waves (and sometimes successful) efforts at assimilation over ensuing decades culminating with full legal status granted to Indian citizens effective 14 November 1935 thereby solidifying their place within contemporary racialized America just days ahead profound demographic change wrought throughout Southwest Florida following completion Of World War II brought about dramatic influxes both white & black Floridians primarily seeking government jobs & opportunity opportunities offered newly opened areas such as Tampa Bay Area thru programs initiated By Federal Govt & local boosters
