The Clermont Army Reserve Battalion was activated on November 15, 1942 as the first of what would become an annual tradition in Clermont. The battalion continued to exist until it was disbanded on October 1, 1945. Throughout the years, the battalion has hosted numerous gift-giving events that have helped support military and veteran programs in the community. In 2007, the battalion organized and participated in a Soldier's Day parade in memory of fallen members of our military. This event also served as a fundraiser for local veteran organizations. In 2009, the battalion partnered with local elementary schools to provide holiday gifts for children who were not able to receive presents from their parents or guardians. The event was again successful and generated much interest from area businesses who were able to contribute funds for this fantastic program. In 2013, we decided to commemorate our service member's sacrifices by hosting a Veterans Day Parade in honor of all those who have served within our Armed Forces over the years. This event once again served as a fundraiser for local veteran organizations and drew large crowds which demonstrated just how popular this type of parade is with residents in Clermont!

Clermont, Florida is a small town in central Florida. It is the county seat of Duval County and has a population of about 63,000. The name Clermont comes from French for "colored clover". The area that now makes up Clermont was first settled by Native American people around 1000 BC. In 1836, the Seminole Tribe ceded their land to the United States in exchange for protection from Spanish forces. The town was founded on October 3, 1892 by J. P. Morgan and others as a result of his railroad investment in nearby Stonington. A post office called Clermont was established in 1895, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1907, the US Department of Agriculture granted township status to what is now known as Clermont-Ft Myers Airport (then just an expanse of swamp). On November 10, 1927 representatives from seventeen surrounding communities gathered at Municipal Hall to discuss creating an airport that would serve all of them collectively rather than having each municipality create its own airport only for itself; this idea became reality two years later when the Stonington-Clermont Airport opened with hangar space for three planes and runway improvements totaling $2 million dollars).
