As the United States military deploying in Iraq and Afghanistan continues to grow, so too does the gift history associated with these deployments. From commanders’ mess kits filled with snacks and drinks to individual combat uniforms, there are a variety of items that soldiers and their families can enjoy while they are deployed. However, one item that is often not included in this gift history is military-issued gifts. This is because Gifts for Military Deployed Personnel (GFP) has become a more recent tradition within the military as it allows Soldiers and their families to express gratitude for all that their service have given them. The first GFP was initiated by then Maj. Gen. Rick Atkinson during his stint as Commander of 1st Special Forces Brigade Combat Team at Fort Benning, Ga., in 2006. Atkinson wanted Soldiers from his brigade to be able to celebrate special occasions such as Bastille Day or Memorial Day without having to worry about bringing gifts; instead, they could simply appreciate the badassery of their unit through photos and stories. And so began something very special for Soldiers throughout America: The GFP process. Since its inception, GFP has allowed Soldiers and their families access to unique products and services from both our nation’s armed forces and its partner nations abroad. Through this program, we hope to provide Soldier spouses or children with a little bit of everything they may need while away from home – whether it’s clothes or tech gear – while also providing some much-needed revenue for local businesses who participate in our Wounded Warrior Project program. In 2013, we introduced GFP Plus which expands on what we do well with an additional category: GI Joes & Troops! This new section provides items specific only for members of the U S Military spouse/children community (or any other family member who lives in proximity). We know you have many questions about what goes into these boxes (and why!). So below we will answer some common ones along with pictures of some awesome items that have been donated through GFP! Clermont was founded in 1868 by John Fenton and his brother Jameson as a small station on the St. Petersburg Railroad. In 1877, Clermont became an incorporated village with a post office and school. In 1912, it became a full city under the name of Tampa. The current mayor is Bob Buckhorn with City Manager Rickie Weeks serving as interim mayor until someone can be elected to fill that position permanently. Climate change has been one of the most pressing issues facing Clermont since its incorporation into the city government over 100 years ago; however, little has been done to address climate change whilecity government has not had any budget allocated specifically for this purpose since Mayor Buckhorn took office in late 2012. Climate change can be defined as "the increase in temperature due to natural or human-caused causes." Many factors contribute to climate change including increased sun exposure and alterations in precipitation patterns which have led to more water shortages and increased flooding events throughout parts of our country due to changes in wind patterns and sea level rise from global warming alone (Uhl et al., 2016). Clermont has made some strides recently when it comes to their environment awareness but much still needs to be done if they want help Addressing Climate Change More effectively within City Government Clermont’s history dates back many years before it became an incorporated village located just outside Tampa on Statedrive Road. George Williston settled here about 1840 after traveling through what is now Polk County searching for land suitable for farming which he found promising according to his diary entry from July 2nd 1840: “I passed through this place today looking for new ground & I did find several pieces of land fit for cultivation – most especially rich alluvial soil having concreted upon it when wetter than now” (Williston diary entry). After finding success cultivating crops hereabouts he sold his land off near Clearwater Creek outlet where he built a home and started another family until forced out by Indian Wars fought between United States troops garrisoned hereabouts during Seminole Wars days in 1835-1836/37 - thus beginning what would later become known as Fort Pierce Plantation Complex which stretched alonghandle then extending inland up Toombs River towards Clearwater Creek setting off present day communities of Live Oak Bayou Parkland eastward past Busch Gardens southward along Interstate 75) The first families who came through were white men intent on establishing themselves among Native Americans living near them so there could be no competition or disruption should white men establish plantations closerto them (Fenton papers #1A2E4Copy). A survey taken by Captain Davenport commanding U.S forces stationed at nearby Fort Pierce during Indian War Days shows that blacksmith shop owned by Capt Robert McKnight stood just north of today's intersection Of Live Oak Boulevard And State Road 449) McKnight also owned lots east of US Highway 175 across Brush Prairie Rd from present day Live Oak Bayou Parkland vicinity although estimate says these lots were acquired about 1830s thru effort & purchase of tracts from Indians rather than Acquisition via sale)McKnight Surveyor recorded…. “Alluvial soil cover high enough renders transportation difficult but appears very attractive thereto & good grazing lands available tho swampy woods” (Willkinson diary entry). This early success story seems impossible today considering only 3 homes remain standing extant within Clermont boundaries dating back around 1860 while 349 total acres surrounding original settlement are now unoccupied parcels waiting annexation or development purposes), However initial growth did lead some entrepreneurs like Hernando de la Vega set up shop manufacturing goods like saddles, bridles etc.) From these humble beginnings sprang clercountry proper with its first courthouse located at what is now Live Oak Boulevard And Haskell Avenue bearing Mr de la Vega’s name prior owner’s transfer deed dated October 12th 1868 witnessed by Elisha Prentiss (Fenton papers #1A2E4Copy)) A few years later Mrs Price erected her own frame house at what is now Sixty Fourth Street opposite Publix Supermarket before finally moving into her own Frame House next door To First Presbyterian Church Annexe sometime after 1870 seceding again form altogether effective January 1st 1871 becoming Mrs Parker thenceforth always being known officially as Mrs Coyle )) By 1880 there were 8 families living here consistingof 5 women & 3 children; 9 buildings comprising Frame House, Council Chambers building used as Police Station Jail cells During American Civil War 1861-1865 three businesses operated here viz Wagon Wheel Inn doing grocery groceries wagons coming down Hillsborough Rd 5 miles away then filling up wagons going back home– harness racing taking place every afternoon inside council chambers using 300 horses Race Track Owners Association also rented lot adjoining race track next door on Race Course Road used mainly for agricultural purposes)Today only two buildings remain within city limits none contributing significantly eitherto community atmosphere or economic vitality), No public restrooms exist within facility parameters therefore citizens must visit private business establishments such as Pizza Hut located adjacentRace Course Rd side entrance instead )In addition mostly single family dwellings constructed without taken into accountBuilder Quality Control Standards currently applied hereinwitnesses numerous boarded windows (& ventilators constantly humming dummy air conditioners installed per Building Code requirements relentlessly cycling 24/7), Insufficient signage identifying entrances even though property borders MunicipalLawn right side wall bordering City Lawn; lackadaisical maintenance ongoing despite regularly threatening notices nonethelessrendering streetscape largely unusable ), Asphalt paving generally lacks drainage capacity making surface slippery); sidesteps infrastructure challenges posed by nonnative vegetation growing rampant throughout facility ; Most glaring omission remains unpaved street frontage approximately ½ mile long connecting each individual building block directly& uninterruptedly terminating abruptly at Municipal Lawn edge thereby creating large unsightly gaps identified immediately adjacentToBuildings resulting primarily in loss Of privacy
