A new Navy installation was constructed at Fort Myers during the early 1960s as part of an effort by then-President John F Kennedy to improve military readiness within America’s strategic location between Washington and Tokyo. The facility became known as Marine Barracks Annex #2 after it was completed in 1966. In 1971 budgetary restrictions forced Defense Secretary Robert McNamara to reduce active duty forces by 1/3 million men; however, that didn’t stop Secretary McNamara from contributing $1 million toward construction projects at Marine Barracks Annex #2 until his death in 2008. The annex now houses a popular amusement park called Six Flags Over Sarasota which opened its doors in 2001 and has been an anchor for tourism for the town since then!

Clermont is a small community located in Brevard County, Florida. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. For many years, Clermont was home to the largest cotton gin in Florida and it still makes an appearance on local grocery store shelves. The local economy relies heavily on agriculture, with corn and soybeans being the main crops. There are also a few small businesses that provide services such as plumbing and roofing. The town was founded by two brothers in 1871. They named their town after Count Clermont of Auvergne, France who had lost his homeland during World War I. The brothers continued to operate the gin until 1916 when it closed due to lack of resources. In 1926, the town purchased land from Jardine Wagon Wheel for $1,000 which served as its first courthouse building and jail until 1959 when it burned down. In 1965, the town built its current courthouse which stands today beside State Road 98A (Brevard Parkway). Clermont has been inhabited by Native Americans since before European explorers arrived in what is now Brevard County in 1565 A.D.. The first Europeans to visit were Giovanni da Verrazzano and his crew who sighted Fort Caroline Islands on July 4th 1570 while sailing through present day Jacksonville Bay and charted them as part of their India-Pacific Voyage voyageurs under La Salle; they did not explore these islands but later claimed them for France because they were considered part of Canada instead of America at that time - this claim would be recognized more fully by Spain when they discovered St Augustine's Harbor (now Jacksonville) lying northwest of Cuba about four miles east off Spanish Key on October 14th 1665). In 1794 there was a large plantation called "Fortunato" near what is now downtown Clermont which slaves worked for white owners including Captain John Tryon who bought them from their African owners shortly before he became Governor Tryon's slave trader rival General James Wilkinson's expedition landed at Fort Georgetown Harbor January 12th 1795 during Wilkinson's Conquest of Florida campaign against Spanish rule during King George II’s War for Independence; Tryon took 50 Negroes captive along with 400 cannon rounds then drove out 350 Spanish/Portuguese soldiers garrisoning Fort Caroline Island where he left them three days later exposed ashore without food or water then sailed back into port having accomplished his goal despite heavy losses (the fortification had been abandoned 3 years earlier). American settlers began arriving soon afterwards seeking refuge from British pirates operating outofthis area; one result was Indian Chief Manuel de la Vega moving his family from St Johns River Colony northward upriver to Plantation San Fernando some 20 miles northeast known today as Maitland Park thence southwesterly along Mobile Bayou past New Smyrna Beach Racetrack Race Course thence southeast across First Coastline Swamp Hunting Grounds Landsborough Plantation November 10th 1796 just prior to Seminole Creek Crossingsee Map here etc.).
