The history of the Air Force in Cocoa Beach, Fla., goes back to World War II. The town was first occupied by Spanish settlers in the early 1800s, and it was not until after America declared war on Japan that air service began. In 1941, American bombers bombed Japanese targets in Florida; Cocoa Beach was one of the towns hit. In 1944, Air Force officials decided that a new airport would be built in Cocoa Beach and construction began immediately. The first runway was completed in 1945 and during this time, the town became an important airbase for USAAF forces. After the war ended, many military units and personnel left Cocoa Beach for other locations around the country. However, some residents continued to live there until 1961 when USAF Base RAF Fairfield opened nearby. Today, there is still active USAF activity at RAF Fairfield as well as two inactive fighter aircraft hangars on Main Street which serve as cultural attractions for locals and visitors alike. It is also home to the National Museum of Aerospace History which features items related to aviation history from all over the world!

The United States Air Force gift history is a long and complex tale. The USAF began gifting items to other militaries in the 1930s, but it was only after World War II that it became an official branch of the military. Initially, the USAF gave items such as radios, pistols and vehicles to aid in war effort. However, over time, the USAF grew more interested in culture and started giving gifts such as books, art or furniture to civilian members of the military. In 1961, President John F Kennedy announced his intention to create a separate Air Force Academy for women. This led to the creation of The Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History (NMASH) which housed both The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) and The Carter Center for Defense Studies (CCDS). It was through these institutions that we began to learn about airforce gift history. One of the first things we learned was that there has been a long tradition of giving gifts to other branches of the military. For example, during World War II US forces gifted many radios and pistols to allies like Britain and China. Similarly, duringOperation Desert Storm in 1991 US forces donated many art pieces from various museums across Europe back into Iraq so that Saddam Hussein could not build any new museums with those artifacts! Additionally, given how often Gifts are exchanged between different branches of our Armed Forces it can be difficult to determine exactly when a particular gift originated or why it was given in that particular instance. However, by examining gift histories from throughout our armed services we can start piecing together some general trends about how they give gifts back and forth between their departments/branches/units etc…. In terms of specific types of items gifted over time there seems to be three main areas where this tends happen: technology- especially firearms; art; and furniture/furniture accessories. Firearms tend not to make much sense because they are usually given as partof larger equipment grants or donations - however some examples include: tanks (which were originally gifted during World War I), fighter jets (gift awarded following WWII), artillery pieces (easedly gifted post-WWII) etc….. Interestingly though most aircraft acquisitions seem not related too much directly either towards culture or warfare – instead typically focused on creating more efficient airframes etc….. Overall though it is generally safe assume that any given Gift originates from somewhere within one’s departmental area(s)/unit/branch(ies). There is always something special about reading through years worth of gift history – even if all you end up finding are old pictures!
