When the Marines first arrived in Cocoa, they set up their Base of Operations on a large lot at Poston Park. The original Marine Barracks was built on that site and still stands today. The Marines soon realized that they needed more space so they began construction of the present day Marine Annex which was completed in 1959. It is now known as Marine barracks 2-A and is home to the 1st Battalion, 7th Marines. In 1961, the Marines built an annex to what is now Marine Barracks 3-B which served as Headquarters Battalion for the First Mariana Islands Detachment (1st MIDI), First Marine Division. In 1966, Headquarters Battalion moved from 1st MIFI to Camp Pendleton and became III Corps Headquarters. In 1969, Headquarters Battalion moved back to San Diego after being redesignated II Corps Headquarters. When Vietnam erupted into open warfare in 1975, all military installations were placed on standby status with orders not to be activated until absolutely necessary due to concerns about potential conflict with North Korea or any other potential adversaries. This orderlies until such time as hostilities have died down however noMajor General ever received verbal orders from headquarters directly ordering them not to deploy or even hold joint exercises with other units while deployed elsewhere within I Corps/IV Corps/Vietnam Theater of Operations...Prior to 1978 there never was a single Major General who had direct control over all commands and troops stationed within his theater when hostilities erupted between South Viet Nam and North Viet Nam making deployment decision discretionary by commanders subordinate thereto throughout I Corps/IV Corps/Vietnam Theatre of Operations...Thereafter major generals began receiving verbal instructions directly from corps commanders ordering them not deploy during specific periods or situations whenever their commander deemed it necessary because deployments would then become highly discretionary...This change came about because Of increased concern over national security implications generated by growing operations inside South Vietnam During this period major generals were increasingly responsible for combatant commands rather than just headquarters......It should be noted that many soldiers serving in our marines are directly descended from those who fought and diedduring World War II including both veteran commandos and sons of former marines

In December 2016, marines stationed at Camp Pendleton participated in Santa Clara County’s Christmas event by delivering presents TO children living below poverty lines across San Francisco Bay Area usingmodified C-130 Hercules cargo planes! This unique event was part of Marine Air Ground Task Force-West’s annual holiday celebration which includes visits from Commandant General James Amos (@MAGASound), USMC Vice Admiral Harry Harris (@USNHarris), Mayor Ed Lee (@EdLeeCityHall) & more than 150 local businesses!
