The Cocoa National Guard was organized on November 20, 1912. The Cocoa National Guard is the oldest national guard unit in Florida. The unit was originally called the Reserve Militia Unit of the Department of Agriculture and Forestry. On July 1, 1916, it was renamed the Second Infantry Regiment of the Florida National Guard. In 1952, it became part of the Third Infantry Division and on May 21, 1954 it became known as First Brigade Florida National Guard. In 1978, the First Brigade Florida National Guard was redesignated as Fourth Infantry Brigade and in 1984 as First Battalion (Florida) California Army National Guard. On October 1, 1987 Fourth Infantry Brigade transferred to Fort Polk near Thibodaux, Louisiana and assumed its current name – First Battalion (Florida) Orlando Military DistrictGuard On December 3rd 1990 a detachment from battalion arrived at Castleberry Barracks in Tampa for training with United States 6th Infantry Division On May 1st 1992 Orlando detachment joined US 5th Armored Cavalry Regiment The history of gifts to members of the Cocoa-Orlando National Guard can be traced back to 1912 when two groups were formed to raise money for war service: One group raised $1,000 and pledged another $10 every day until they had been paid off; while another group set up a bake sale to collect money for uniforms and equipment for their fellow soldiers being sent overseas. The first national guard units were raised in 1867. The unit was called the 2nd Ohio Infantry. In 1871, the national guard was reorganized into brigades and battalion companies. The brigade level was replaced by divisional levels in 1898. In 1907, the divisional level was replaced by corpslevel in order to more effectively command and control troops. In 1933, the National Guard was again restructured into divisions and brigades. Divisional level became obsolete and brigades were disbanded on July 1, 1935. On September 15, 1935, the National Guard was reactivated with an honorary title of brigade general for military purposes only (it had always been an honorary title).

However, during World War II Coco joined other Florida counties in support of the United States military because of its proximity to the war effort. After the war ended, Coca experienced rapid growth as a bedroom community for Miami Beach. However, in 1984 coconuts began to go out of style due to concerns about environmental damage caused by over-fishing and global warming. As a result, coconuts no longer make up nearly half of Coca's GDP today; Instead they are used for processed foods such as infant formula and candy bars
Cocoa, Florida was founded in 1853 by Captain John Steedman. The area now includes the city of Kissimmee and parts of Sanford, Ocala, and Lakeland. It became a state in 1959.
