The United States Armed Forces have been present in Coconut Creek, Florida since World War II. The first military deployment in the community was on December 8, 1941 when the US Coast Guard deployed a detachment of sailors and Marines to protect shipping lanes off of Key West. From that day forward, the Coast Guard has played an important role in providing security for residents and businesses in Coconut Creek. Coconut Creek is a small town in Lee County, Florida. The population was 1,296 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Avon Combined Statistical Area. As of the 2000 census, Coconut Creek had a total population of 712 people. Coconut Creek is located on U.S. Route 441, about 10 miles east of Kissimmee and 15 miles west of Orlando. The area now known as Coconut Creek was first settled by Native Americans in the early 1800s. A plantation was built there in 1836 by Jno.[2] In 1840, the area became Spanish territory when Mexico ceded it to Spain after losing its war with England over Texas. The name "Coconut creek" likely originated from this time period because many coconut trees were found near the banks of that stream. In 1853, Captain John Hogg purchased land at present day intersection of US4 41st Street and State Road 32nd Avenue for $1,000 ($10 per acre). He named his new land "offut Drive". In 1865, Colonel Augustus Bogan founded Bogan's Mills which manufactured cotton goods until it closed its doors in 1936 due to World War II competition from United States mills manufacturing more efficient machines than Bogan's mills could produce efficiently enough to keep up with American demand for their products during that time period. However, incorporation as a village did not take place until 1907 when Sugar Loaf Plantation bought 8 acres (3 hectares) lot adjacent to current day University Boulevard and donated it to Coconut Creek Village Incorporated under Section 965A Florida Statutes (1907). This site included what are now Main Street and University Boulevard north side between Westcott Drive and Eastcott Drive west side between Nowakoff Road and Government Way south side across Old Main Road from Wohlgemuth School now Knolls Park Elementary School east side between Main Street and US 441st Avenue today's Kane Rd west side between US 441st Ave & Church Rd old main road opening into present day town center about 3/4 mile wide at open space just inside town limits From 1907-1960 all real estate development within city limits took place through Village Incorporation thru Trustees appointed by Mayor elected directly by residents subject matter only to approval or veto by City Council

The origins of Coconut Creek date back to 1875 when two Spanish families – Pedro Menendez and José Castillo – built a plantation called Rancho de las Palmas on what is now Coconut Creek Boulevard. In 1916, businessman John Wachovia bought Rancho de las Palmas from Pedro Menendez and renamed it Coconut Creek after his own coconut plantation in Havana, Cuba. Coconut creek was incorporated as a town by an act of the Florida Legislature on December 3, 1925. At that time it included all present-day Coral Gables except for unincorporated areas east of I-95 and north of SW 4th Street which were annexed into Doral by then-town president James Meeks in 1959. The first mayor was Harry Ladd who served from 1927 to 1929; Fred Hirschauer served from 1933 to 1935; Al Capone held office twice during this time as well as being Mayor 1928-1930; Edward Jagger (1900-1985) also served as mayor between 1935 and 1939; Edith Pendergast (1893-1974) was reelected unopposed in 1944; Charlie Keyes (1920-) received his first term in office in 1946 before he resigned to become state director for election processing for Governor Sunil Bajaji during 1947 campaign season.; In 1970s Stonington Keys voters consolidated their votes with Coconut creek so they became one municipality under name "Coconut creek." On May 8th 1990 residents successfully petitioned to have their incorporation noted as an official city within minutes after hours voting ran above 100% with only eleven ballots against instead of thirteen required by ordinance passed by both chambers unanimously but without debate
