From 1914 to 1919, soldiers brought back over 1,000 pounds of goods for distribution to local businesses and homes. He ordered all stores on the island closed due to an increase in supplies being sent into South Korea by sea. This event is known as “The Day The grocery store closed down on Fort Brooke” because not one store was open during that time period! In 1957, U.S Forces Korea opened its gates to civilians for the first time ever! As a result of this change, many American citizens decided they would rather give money or items than send flowers or receive a gift from home “just for fun”. In 1941, the United States began production of the 7.62mm machine gun, which became known as the M1A1 Carbine after its first production run in 1942. The M1A1 Carbine was a modification of the earlier 6.5mm rifle barrel that allowed it to fire rounds up to 1,100 meters (3,280 feet). It remained in service through most of World War II and into postwar years until it was replaced by new firearms in 1972.
Coconut Creek, Florida is an affluent town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,811 at the 2010 census. Coconut Creek is located on the Apalachicola River and is bordered by Cutler to the north, Dunnellon to the west, Lake Wales to the south and east and Bartow to the southeast. Coconut Creek was founded in 1876 as a small shrimp trade town on an island in what is now Ryan's Island. In 1903 it became a resort community with nine resorts complete with tennis courts, golf courses and other recreational amenities. The townsite had been developed by entrepreneur Harry Moorehead who also built Ryan's Island Bridge across the Apalachicola River in 1905. Moorehead sold most of his holdings to developer James Fenton in 1917 for $2 million dollars after building a cotton gin and sawmill on his new plantation called "The Oaks". A year later Fenton sold all of Coconut creek to businessman John Jenson for $3 million dollars which increased its importance as a commercial center within Polk County during World War I when coastal shipping stopped because of prohibition. In 1925 Jenson donated much of his land nears coconut creek for use as rural development along US 1 between Cutler and Dunnellon - this area now includes portions of Dunnellon and Cutler counties. At that time Coconut creek had about 10,000 residents; today it has over 20,000 residents including many high-end homesites such as Plantation Row (pictured), Sunrise Beach Estates & Residences (pictured) and One Hundred Acres (pictured). In 1928 Jenson built one of America's first modern hospitals - St Johns Hospital - which still stands today as one of Coconut creek's major landmarks. During World War II there were several large scale industry plants established in mainland Florida such as Lockheed Aircraft Corporation’s plant at North Field on Clearwater Beach where planes were made from aluminum cans filled with lead shot; Post Convex’s phosphate mine at Plantation Point where fertilizer was produced from coral shells collected off Key Largo; Allis Chalmers Radio Company’s factory at BB&T Rd.; Westinghouse Electric Company’s huge steel mill at White Sands Ammunition Range;and Dow Chemical Company’s heavy petrochemical plant at Oak Hill located just outside city limits just north of I-75 exit 191A off US1/SR 507

Coconut Creek grew up on the banks of the St. Johns River in North Florida. The area was first inhabited by the Timucua people, who lived there for about two centuries before moving to their current location south of Interstate 95. In 1664, Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León discovered Coconut Creek and named it Santa Clara de la Vega after his sister’s convent in Havana, Cuba. In 1884, a group of farmers from Jacksonville moved to Coconut Creek and began growing coconut trees. The fruit became very popular and demand for coconuts increased so much that the farmers started selling them door-to-door. By 1916, when Fort Pierce was founded, Coconut Creek had become an important commercial center with its own railroad station and several stores. In 1922, Coastal Air Lines flying boats landed at Fort Pierce Airport on Coconut Creek for passengers coming downriver from Key West and Miami Beach. During World War II, many Naval vessels used Coconut Creek as a stopover during their patrols along the Florida coast. After the war ended, most of the commercial aviation stopped until 1978 when Atlantic Airlines started serving Coconut Creek with nonstop flights to Gainesville (GEF) and Jacksonville (JAX).
