Coconut Creek is a small town in Broward County, Florida on the south coast of Miami-Dade County. It was founded in 1922 by Cornelius Vanderbilt, and became a center for sugarcane production and shipping. The town experienced significant growth during World War II as it became a munitions manufacturing center. However, since the 1990s, Coconut Creek has become an increasingly popular tourist destination, with its restored historic buildings and beaches making it one of the most visited towns in South Florida. The first coffee plantation in Coconut Creek was started by Spanish settlers in 1795. Coffee beans were grown at different locations throughout South America before being brought to Cuba and then to Puerto Rico where they were roasted and sold. In 1847, Portuguese traders discovered coconut oil while sailing through the area and began to produce cocoa beans for export to Europe. By 1849, about 25% of all Cuban coffee output went to English merchants based in London. In 1922, Cornelius Vanderbilt purchased land near Coconut Creek from the government for $1 million dollars (equivalent to $102 million today). He built his first factory there including a shipyards that produced warships like USS Constitution (1797-1845) and USS Constitution (1846-1892). The company also manufactured cars and trucks under license from General Motors; however production ceased after World War II because of the war effort's impact on steel production worldwide. During World War II, Coconut Creek became known as a munitions manufacturing center due to its proximity to Fort Brooke which manufactured ammunition used in wars around the world. After Pearl Harbor Attack on December 7th 1941 local factories stopped producing munitions but continued producing food products such as gasoline filters and canned goods until 1945 when they transitioned back into munitions manufacturing using American steel facilities overseas again until late 1949 or early 1950 when they closed down permanently leaving behind anMI Industrie GmbH with plants at Wiesbaden am Rhein und Mainz Germany closed down too so their plant still produces aluminum cans now though not directly army related but allied military items are still made here
