There is no one definitive account of the beginning of coffee in Cooper City, Florida. However, historian Darryl P. Maga and his team have compiled a series of oral histories that provide insights into early coffee history in this city. In 1847, two men named John and James Cook established a small grocery business at 1124 Hawthorne Avenue in Cooper City. They began selling roasts of beans from their farm located about three miles away on US 1 near the mouth of Tampa Bay. The first cup of coffee ever brewed was served to locals at the Cook's store on December 5th, 1847. The growth of coffee commerce in Cooper City was due in part to two factors: First, United States Army General Andrew Jackson issued an executive order authorizing the importation and sale of Java beans as part of his efforts to boost military morale during the Mexican-American War; and second, local businessmen formed a partnership with Captain Arthur Stroud (of nearby Ybor City) to establish what would become known as the "Cooper City Coffee Company." Awareness that Java beans could be roasted better than other types led to further interest in this unique variety by brewers throughout America during the 1840s and 1850s. By 1853, production had reached its peak at The Cooper Coffee Company's 2205 Hawthorne Avenue plant – creating what today is considered one of Jacksonville's most important commercial thoroughfares for coffee products
Cooper City, Florida is a city located in Polk County, Florida. The population was 24,574 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Polk County. The city is named after George Cooper, an early settler and mayor of Jacksonville, Florida. The area that now Cooper City was first inhabited by the Caloosahatchee Nation. In 1827, George Washington was visiting the area when he met with Chief Osceola and his people. After meeting with Washington, Osceola offered to sell him some land in what is now Cooper City if Washington would visit again. Washington returned to Jacksonville and visited Cooper City again in 1830 before leaving for Mexico on his Farewell Tour. In 1835, John Denton purchased a tract of land from the Caloosahatchee nation for $1 per acre plus interest. Denton named his new community "Cooper City" in honor of George Cooper who had helped him purchase the land. The town began growing quickly due to its location and natural resources: coal mines were established near the town limits in 1859 and 1860, making it one of the most important mining communities in America at that time. By 1870, Cooper City had a population of over 10,000 people and was one of the largest towns within twenty miles of Jacksonville metropolitan areas. The Panic of 1893 destroyed much business activity in America during that period and lead to mass unemployment throughout much of northeastern Ohio; however, Cooper City remained unaffected as business continued operations despite low prices for goods brought into town by railroads traveling through those parts at that time In 1907-08 local businessmen formed a group known as "The League Against Corruption" which lobbied unsuccessfully against state government corruption laws then being passed via legislature as part of Andrew Johnson's New Deal agenda (codified as United States Code § 371). At this time large numbers black Americans were living inside white society while working their own small businesses – many owned by African Americans – circumventing strict Jim Crow segregation laws enacted during previous administrations . This resistance against such blatant graft led some Southern Democrats later called "the mob", including Governors Thomas Ewing and LeRoy Collins (1912-1914), Norris Crawford (1920-1922) & James Meeks (1924-1926), to refer to these businesses as "cooper shops". However other smaller businesses did not fare so well under New Deal regulation; examples include Joplin Shoes which closed shop on Main Street due to high taxes levied against its owners by local politicians; Radio Shack which failed because it did not have any radios made yet; or Sears Roebuck & Co., Inc.'s Anheuser Busch Brewery branch store on Taylor Avenue which closed because its beers were no longer available year-round outside Chicago due to Prohibition violations set up by state police . Overall though these closures may have been more affecting than larger companies since they operated out of individual storefronts rather than large corporate buildings like Sears & Co.,Inc., many small businesses suffered during this period as regulations became more exacting . Businesses didn't restart until prohibition ended almost fifty years later when major corporations reformed themselves under new leadership

In 1932, John A. Cooper died suddenly and his brother Alvin took control of the business operations of the town. Alvin was an experienced builder and quickly began constructing churches and other infrastructure needed for what would become known as "the Friendly Town." By 1945, Cooper City had grown to include over 100 residences; 10 businesses; two schools; a post office; three libraries; six grocery stores; four banks (two national banks and two cooperatives); five movie theaters (including one that showed feature films until 1976); six swimming pools (one with an Olympic-sized pool); seven tennis courts (nine portable courts) . Additionally, there were fruit orchards (), cattle farms (), golf courses () , horseback riding () ; five motels (); three bowling alleys (); ten stores (); two insurance companies (); one supermarket (); four restaurants ().
