In recent years, growth within Coopersville has slowed due tolimited development opportunities on land which surrounds the city limits. However, there are still opportunities for new businesses to enter into CooperCity through annexation or rezoning requests made by interested developers.

Cooper City experienced its golden years during World War II when it became a major military training and production center for the U.S. war effort. The city produced more than two million gallons of gasoline for American forces during World War II and contributed $6 million to the war effort overall. In 1948, General Douglas MacArthur called on Cooper City to become "the most producible community in America." After the war ended, Cooper City declined into obscurity until developer Forrest Hall revived it in the early 1990s with new plans for development that included light industry, housing, retail space and a new arena for the Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team. Today, Cooper City is one of Florida's fastest-growing municipalities with a population of over 50,000 people and is home to several important businesses such as Philips Healthcare and Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC).
