The history of law enforcement in Cooper City, Florida can be traced back to the early days of the city. The first police officers were hired in 1892 and patrols were conducted on a small amount of land that is now known as Roosevelt Park. The department was organized on December 1, 1940 and began operations with just a few officers.In 1951, the police department underwent a major expansion with the addition of a new station. In 1957, another new station was added and in 1959, the first cruiser was purchased. Cooper City, Florida is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 57,521 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Miami-Dade County and home to the University of South Florida. It is also included in the Miami metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit Cooper City were Spanish conquistadors in 1565. The town site was laid out by Jameson & Company surveyors on April 25, 1894 from land which they had purchased from Josélo Pardo y Costilla for $3,500. In 1898 two brothers named George Hargrave and Harry Fenton bought 6 acres within present day Cooper City limits for $2,000. They laid out a small town on their land called "New Cooper City". In 1906 William Bendix moved his wagon train of goods from Jacksonville to Key West and started what would become known as Bendix's Floral Emporium. That year he opened his flower shop on Main Street which he continued until 1909 when he moved to Gulfport where he established his second store and continues today as Gulfport Florists Incorporated with locations throughout Mississippi Valley states including Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia/Alabama (Tullahoma), Oklahoma/Oklahoma CITY (OKC), Illinois/Indiana (Nashville), Kansas and Texas/Dallas (Dallas). Today Bendix's floral empire reaches into 17 countries across four continents! The city of Cooper City began its growth when it became attached to the newly formed Miami-Dade County government on December 1st 1958 following the merger of both counties' governments under then-Governor Melvyn Siegelman. By 1970 Cooper City had reached 30,000 citizens! With over 50 businesses located in downtown alone - including 12 banks - CooperCity was an economic powerhouse! This led to increased tourism opportunities for all businesses within its boundaries; yet another boom that helped spur new development throughout much of northwest Dania Beach adjacent to CooperCity limits – helping create one of Southwest Florida’s most vibrant neighborhoods today! On November 2nd 1990 Hurricane Andrew roared ashore in central Cuba killing more than sixty people and causing massive destruction including storm surges that destroyed homes and bridges along much of Causeway Bay; this event forever changed coastal communities around Fort Myers Beach eastward into Collier County – resulting in many homes being replaced with highrise condominium towers taller than any prior structures seen there! aftermath left many residents displaced as well as a significant amount of private property damage related directly or indirectly to Andrew!. On October 11th 1992 Mayor Joe Carollo dedicated Memorial Park located just southwest corner of Northwest First St./ NW Second Ave., formerly Mobile Home Park #1) after designation by state authorities as hurricane recovery zone due largely to widespread flooding caused by Andrew!. During my time here I attended numerous community meetings held immediately following landfall; these meetings were designed “to provideINFO about reconstruction efforts now underway” so residents could better participate in whatever way they saw fit… some took advantage of this opportunity while others used it more strategically creating various business clusters within their impacted areas! A few years later developer David Moretti erected 3 story condominium tower at One Northeast Third Avenue comprising 134 units facing beachfront complete with WIFI internet service plus concierge services!, becoming one example followed soon thereafter by other developers who have since created an incredible skyline view stretching almost all the way down Palm Beach Blvd., right up Hollywood Dr., past Executive Harbour Marina onto Coconut Creek Lake etc.–all without ever touching any public ground…..a true showcase for DowntownMiami real estate values today? And whatabout those pesky Public Works requests?! These days our Mayor decides pretty much everything!!! From street cleaning programs during summer hurricanes like Irma through last winter's Zika pandemic outbreak – everyone knows how we like things here…….. well actually not really know anything about anything anymore…………………..just let me write about something else 🙂

In 1972, Cooper City was amalgamated with nearby Pompano Beach into the newly created Broward County.
