Doyle established himself as an author and philanthropist in Coral Gables and other parts of South Florida. In 1907 he donated land to Miami-Dade County for development into what is now Coral Gables. He remains its largest individual donor to charitable causes. In 1924 Doyle purchased 2 miles (3 km) northeast of his original home at 16th Street NW and Northwest Boulevard NW, which became home to his private golf course called Parkland Country Club (now part of Crandon Links). Doyle died in 1986 but his philanthropy continues through the Parkland Country Club Foundation which has donated more than $200 million to charities since 1947
