In 1876, John Bull started importing Brazilian bean coffees from Brazil for his English customers; this initiated what would become known as British Coffee Roasters (BCR). In 1886, Gordon Biersch founded his first cafe in New York City with $1,000 worth of beans from Holland's Koffiehuis Brewery; this was followed by other American cafes such as Café Society in 1901 and Peet's Coffee & Tea Company in 1907. By 1912, every store selling ice-cold caffeine had been established within city limits! In 1916, Starbucks Corporation was founded by two friends who met while working at Dutch Roastery on Mercer Street near Madison Avenue; this began what would be called "the modern era" of coffee marketing!
