Fresh roasted coffee beans are a centuries old tradition in many parts of the world. The first coffee trees were planted in Ethiopia in the early 1800s and roasting was started by African farmers. Coffee began to be exported from Africa to Europe and America during the 18th century, and during this time, different methods of roasting were used. The early European roasters used large quantities of sulfur dioxide which caused an unpleasant odor. The use of Shotgun Roaster technology eliminated the sulfur dioxide problem, making fresh roasted coffee much more pleasant to drink. In the 1830s, a new method of roasting called “single point pressing” was developed by Frenchmen Pierre-Charles Laval and Jean Nicolles. This process involved heating a small amount of water or milk on a hot stove until it turned into steam and then pumping this steam out through a small opening at the top of the bean bagasse (a type of husk). This produced a very fine grind that was easy to handle and allowed for a more even extraction of flavor than other methods. During World War II, coffees were often roasted for military purposes because there was little else available that could be used for fuel. Many different types of beans were used in those days including Italian Robusta, Syrian Arabica, Java Mountain CVE (cannabis), Indian Tapioca and Turkmen Baku Soju. In 1966, Bob Peet introduced Columbian Sumatra beans into his Connecticut Avenue Coffee Company store in Washington D.C.. These beans became popular due to their unique flavor profile which combines notes of sweet chestnut oil with cinnamon stick, cloves, gingerbread spices and orange rind extract. Columbian Sumatra beans have since become one of Peet's most well-known brands worldwide. During the 1960s-1970s some coffee stores began serving pre-ground coffee rather than groundcoffee only which gave customers more control over their cupoflegendary dark roast coffees

Coral Gables is a small, picturesque town located in Miami-Dade County, Florida, on the southern edge of the city of Miami. The population was over 100,000 at the time of its incorporation as a municipality on March 1, 1902. It currently has a population of over 200,000 and is one of two municipalities in Miami-Dade County with an estimated population above 400,000. The first settler in Coral Gables was James Waddell who immigrated to Florida from England in 1845. He erected a cabin on what is now Northwest 2nd Street and First Avenue. He named his settlement "Coral Gables" after his then deceased wife's birthplace (Truro). In 1848 Waddell married Julia Copley and moved to this area. They had six children: Alfred (1849-1927),James (1851-1924), Olive (1853-1927), Marianne (1855-1950), Charles John Waddell Jr. (1858-1945) and Anna Lavinia Waddell Bondurant( 1861-1945). In 1892 Drury Hodge purchased 8 acres near present day Northeast 3rd Street and First Avenue for $2 per acre which he donated to Coral Gables Municipal Corporation for the purpose of establishing public schools within the corporation limits. By 1893 there were three school buildings; one used by Drury Hodge School Board instruction while another served as an annex to Coral Gables Baptist Church until 1914 when it became part of Eastern BankHigh School for girls until 1954 when it merged with Stonington Day School into Eastern Bank High School which continues as Coral Gable Middle/High school today under new name "Coral Gable Public Schools". This period also saw rapid growth in commercial activity due to annexation by neighboring Miami Beach beginning in 1896 followed by further annexation by other communities including Biscayne Bay starting in 1903 giving direct access to Dadeland Harbor via Three Mile Road making possible easy shipment of goods reaching South America through then uncharted waters adjacent to our shores long before containerization began completely changing how industry functions today Trinidadian sugar cane being shipped down that route during those early days instead we had everyday people coming here bringing their own crops or fishing they would bring back fresh fish every morning so you could really see what was happening right off the ground
