In 1961, the English Coffee House opened in Coral Gables and quickly became one of the most popular cafes in town. Coral Gables, Florida is a census-designated place located on the eastern coast of Miami-Dade County,Florida.It is bordered by the city of Miami to the north,the county seat of Dade County to the east and south, and Broward County to the west. It had a population of 578 as of 2010. The name Coral Gables comes from two main sources: one source says that "a group of white coral growths near (then) sugarcane fields in 1901 inspired Mrs. Copley Botkin to name her new town after her beloved," while another source claims that "Coral Gables" was chosen because there were no other similar sounding places in South Florida at that time. The first location given for Coral Gables was on Cutler's Key where Mrs. Copley Botkin had an estate leased from Mr. Cutler. In 1903, when Mrs. Copley Botkin moved into her new home at 6674 NE 2nd St., she named it Coral Gables after some white coral growing near her sugarcane fields in 1901 - which may have been inspiration for her decision to call her new town Coral Gables! However, it wasn't until 1912 when Floridians started referring to their community as "Coral Gables" that this name really took off! In 1923, Mrs. Copley Botkin donated land adjacent to her estate for what would become Coconut Grove Park - now known as Hollywood Boulevard! And finally in 1959, after years of discussion and debate between various property owners within the community about whether or not they wanted Coconut Grove Park annexed into CoralGables proper or just kept as an individual entity separate - Coconut Grove Park became part of CoralGables! Today, with its own government and School District – all under one roof – CoralGable has come a long way since becoming just another bedroom community on the Eastern Coast of Miami-Dade County; but it’s never too late to experience all that this beautiful town has to offer! From shopping malls and restaurants bourgeoning along Biscayne Boulevard eastward towards downtown Miami all the way down through golf courses and tennis clubs – there are plenty things for residents hereto enjoy year-round! Coral Gables is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 12,291 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami–Ft. Lauderdale–West Palm Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that now makes up Coral Gables was first settled by Jews after they emigrated from Russia in 1835. The name "Coral Gables" was derived from the large coral reefs found in the locality and near present-day Coral Gables Boulevard. In 1892, Dr. Edwin Bogue purchased land near what is now Coral Gables Boulevard and started to develop it as a resort town for wealthy Americans and their families who wanted to escape society's conditions during the early 20th century. He named his development "Coral Gables." By 1925, Bogue had developed more than 1,000 acres (400 hectares) of land in what today is Coral Gables and built more than 50 homes and cottages on it for American expatriates who were expelled from Europe during World War I or during other times of social unrest. After World War II ended, many of these same people bought additional tracts of land around Coconut Grove so that they could continue to enjoy this idyllic setting without having to leave their homes or businesses behind. Today there are over 2,000 residents spread out among more than 130 housing developments located on some 7 miles (11 km) of pristine beachfront – including one within easy walking distance of all the shops and restaurants that make Miami so popular with tourists!
