Small batch coffee history in Coral Springs, Florida began with the first Coffee Plantation in 1876. The Coffee Plantation was a small farm near today’s Coral Springs. In 1886, the coffee plantation was sold to brothers Julius and Bruce Seligman and their partner Moses Wasserstrom. From then on, small batches of coffee were brewed at the Seligmans’ farm until it too passed away in 1948. The last Seligmann family café closed its doors in 1988.
Butch and Jane Denton opened their first restaurant called Sunoco in 1978. At that time, there were only a few small businesses located around Sunrise Boulevard SW in central Coral Springs – including The Koffee Klatch Café (now Knuckleheads), Java Junction Cafeteria, and Dutch Bros., which was the first European-owned business within walking distance of Sunoco restaurant. Starting out as a single storey building on Northwest Second Street SE, Sunoco grew into an empire that included six restaurants across two cities: Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale. Coral Springs is a city in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 26,611 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. Coral Springs was founded on August 29, 1901 by John Denton and his wife Lillie Belle Denton as a small town located east of Kissimmee on the St Johns River. In 1911 it annexed most of Sanford to become Coral Springs proper. In 1925, Coral Springs amalgamated with Lake Worth and became one municipality. On November 1, 1961, Coral Springs merged with Plantation Gardens to form another municipality; this merger also created Archerfield-Plantation Gardens which still exists as an independent municipality today. The first post office in Coral Springs opened in 1901 and closed in 1903 after only six months operation due to lack of postal service within the town limits at that time (the town was then located east of Kissimmee). The present post office building was built in 1915 by Elisha Beall and reopened on December 6th that year under his name; it remains used today as a library branch. The first telephone line went into use in 1923 from an existing cable company node near City Hall to Brownsville Road/Upper Avenue—just south of where current State Road 436 meets UMPKE Boulevard today—and remained operational until 1940 when it was replaced by landline phone service; this line still operates today as part of Jupiter Wireless Telecommunications Company LLC's Spectrum Network subsidiary providing high-quality voice and data services throughout Central Florida including parts of Tampa Bay and Jacksonville Beach FL
