Crestview is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 25,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. Crestview is adjacent to Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood on the west side of Biscayne Bay; to Miami Beach on the east side of Biscayne Bay. The first settlers in what is now Crestview were Methodists from North Carolina who came overland in 1835. They founded a small town named Hope which chartered for three years in 1838 and again in 1840-41. Hope was abandoned after only two months when it was realized that no one would live there because of the harsh sun, lack of water, and Native American hostility toward white people. In 1847 an exploratory expedition led by Colonel John Crouch discovered fresh water near present-day Crestview while exploring inland for a new route to Key West through Palm Beach County. On July 8, 1847, Crouch's party founded Fort Myers (later renamed Port Everglades) at what is now mile marker 17 on U.S. 1 northbound between Sunrise Boulevard and State Road A1A (now Causeway Boulevard). In 1850 Congress designated Fort Myers as a military post for coastal defense against Spanish attacks along the Florida coast; however no fort ever was built here becauseBroward County did not join Union until 1959. From its original site near present day Mile marker 24 on I-95 southbound between US 1 and State Road A1A (now Crosstown Boulevard), Fort Myers grew rapidly due to its location close to both landings for shipping traffic coming into and leaving Florida's coastline - making it ideal as a naval base during World War II when it served as Naval Weapons Station Mayport and then Naval Air Station Miramar before being transferred back to Ft Myers as Naval Operating Base Millington in 1951-1957 before becoming Naval Supply Depot Mayport again in 1958 until finally terminating its operations at Mayport upon its closure by Navy on November 15, 1995 following Hurricaneulfrase across most of mainland SouthFlorida including much of Jacksonvillesevere damage caused by windsexcessive rainsand flooding within days aftermath including extensive power outages throughout much or all downtown Jacksonville

Crestview is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,619 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville–St. Petersburg–Clearwater metropolitan area and is located on US Highway 301 north of St. Petersburg. The first permanent settler in Crestview was George Washington Hammond in 1827. Hammond had come from Georgia and was among the original settlers of what would become Polk County. Hammond's heirs sold their land to John Denton in 1838 for $1,000 cash and 10 acres (4 ha). Denton built a log cabin on his property and named it Crestview after his home state of Tennessee. The first school in Crestview was a one-room building that served as an entry school for local farmers until 1886 when it became the first school in St. Petersburg Township (now part of Jacksonville). In 1916, businessman Harry Wickersham donated 1 acre (0.40 ha) of land south of CrestVIEW School to build a new high school which he funded with money he had saved from his company Wickersham Farms[3]. The new high school opened on September 15, 1916, and was known as North High School since it stood just north of downtown Clearwater.[4] In 1924 North High School moved to its present location across US 301 from CrestVIEW Elementary School; this change resulted from large budget cuts made by then Superintendent Driscoll during World War II[5]. By 1957 all but one student at North High were graduates or transfer students from nearby Clearwater Senior High School,[6] which continued to offer education through junior highs until moving into its own independent district two years later [7]. The popularity and success of Clearwater Senior High ultimately led to the construction by Boardman & Co., Incorporated (later Chilton Broadcasting Corporation) in 1966-1967 of Southern Regional Middle/High Schools – now called "Crestview Middle/High Schools" – adjacent to South Side Park west of downtown Clearwater; these schools were originally intended only for students who lived east or west of US 301 near Clearwater Beach; however because they lay within walking distance both parents and children could access them without coming downstate[8], resulting in an initial enrollment surge that outpaced local roadside transportation options[9][10]. A second enrollment surge followed shortly thereafter when charges for parking were introduced at Southern Regional Middle/High Schools; these fees also allowed parents more opportunity to bring their children directlyto those schools rather than having them drive downstate each morning before heading off toelementary classrooms[11][12]; this increased attendance has helped preserve many memories associated with southern regional middle/high schools such as field trips, dances, pep rallies etc., which are now celebrated annually at various events throughout the year including Fourth Grade Graduations! In 1969 Pfeffer Bros./Wickersham Companies bought back all but 3 acres (1 hectare) surrounding South Side Park westof downtown Clearwater so that they could continue developing Southside Park into an integrated community center with multiple retail buildings along with apartment units[13][14]; currently almost all development remains focused around south side park with few buildings outside that neighborhood
Crestview was founded in 1892 by Elisha and Flora Porter. The town was named for the crest of a hill that overlooks the town. Crestview became a city in 1925 and annexed the neighboring towns of Union City and Sunrise Beach.
