Crestview is a city in Escambia County, Florida, United States. The population was 10,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pensacola–Ft. Walton Beach–Boca Raton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that would become Crestview was first settled by African Americans in the early 1800s as part of what would become Mobile County. In 1836, they moved to present-day Escambia County after being forced out of their previous home by white settlers. The black community here developed into one of the most prosperous and influential in Florida during the antebellum period. As a result of its economic success, Crestview became well known for its high quality schools and many distinguished citizens including Booker T Washington and Rosa Parks were born here. In 1957, CrestVIEW School District No 8 opened a new school in downtown Crestview which became known as "The New School". Today it remains one of the most successful public schools in Escambia County with over 1,000 students enrolled grades PK-12th grade combined! Additionally, there are numerous businesses located within walking distance of both The New School and their associated parks/landscapes such as McGowan Park on State Road 516 just east of town center and Igloo Lake Preserve adjacent to Interstate 20 Exit 183 providing an excellent opportunity for residents to enjoy nature when outside!

In Crestview, Florida, there has been a long and proud history of its citizens. From the original settlers who arrived in 1836 to current day residents, Crestview has had a hand in shaping the community that it is today. Crestview was originally named after Fort Lauderdale, Florida which at the time was only a small town. The land for what is now Crestview were purchased by Colonel James Dunlap from his Creek Indian allies. In 1839-1840, Colonel Dunlap built a small cabin on the site and called it "CrestVIEW." It is interesting to note that this name wasn't given until over 60 years later when developers decided to add an "e" to the end of their name in order to reflect their growing cityhood status. It wasn't until 1865 when Captain John Bigham donated land adjacent to Fort Lauderdale for what is now Crestview High School. At first, school students used hay bales as part of their curricular materials since there was no transportation available at this time. However, with the completion of Interstate 95 in 1977 , school students began using new facilities which include an academic wing and football field/soccer field . The first post office opened in Crestview on May 1st, 1907 as "Hollywood". In 1911-1912, Rev. Wm Ahern established Holy Cross Catholic Church (later known as Our Lady Of Lourdes) on North Gulf Boulevard which still stands today as one of East Broward's most popular tourist attractions . On November 3rd 1916 President Woodrow Wilson dedicated Miami Beach Boulevard Extension - also known as Second Avenue - linking Hollywood with Coral Gables just across from downtown Miami . This important milestone not only helped improve access and communication between these two communities but also signaled the beginning of annexation by Miami into Cuban territory
