Crestview is a small town in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,723 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood metropolitan area. Crestview's ZIP code is 33314. The first permanent settler in Crestview was Hiram Boudinot who arrived in 1837 and named it after his home town of Rochdale, England. He built a home on what is now called Main Street. Another early settler was James Kellar who arrived in 1840 and established himself on the north side of town near Old Key West Road. In 1865, John Wesley Hardin settled in Crestview and started to grow sugarcane. Hardin's plantation covered much of today's Crestview village and its immediate surroundings; he also used some land for other purposes such as a livestock roundabout and a schoolhouse that still stands today on Ulysses Lane (later renamed Kennedy Boulevard). In 1907, Ayer Lumber Company bought out Hardin's interest and began to build what would become known as Ayer Lumber Park which included several buildings including the current courthouse/lawlibrary complex on Woodland Avenue across from Interstate 95. Ayers Lumber Company went bankrupt in 1917 but resumed operations under new management until its demise in 1981 when it merged with Burns Manufacturing Company to form American National Corporation (ANCO). The company name changed to American National Corporation/Crestwood Industries Incorporated before becoming American National Corporation again in 1990 when Forest Products International merged with ANCO to create Dow AgroSciences Incorporated (DOW). On January 25, 2006 DOW announced plans to sell all its assets to Archer Daniels Midland for $5 billion making Crestwood one of the largest corporate acquisitions ever made by an individual company. Dow continued operations as Archer Daniels Midland/Crestwood Industries until 2009 when they spun off their agricultural business into another company - EOG Resources Incorporation - effective October 15th, 2009 allowing them complete divestiture from THEIR agricultural businesses within 2 years
