Crestview is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,715 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Crestview" comes from two places: Crest and view. Crest refers to the mountain that overlooks the town and view means "to see." In 1851, John Hargrave built a cabin on what is now US-27 near the intersection of State Road 447 and FM 536. He named it Crestview after his views of the mountains which he could see from his cabin. By 1875, other settlers had started arriving in Crestview and by 1907 there were 10 houses in Crestview. The first post office in Crestview was established on December 7, 1907. The name change took place on May 6, 1916 to honor General Pershing's visit to Clearwater then open for business as Fort Brooke Army Airfield (now Homestead AFB). On October 16th 1941 during World War II, when Ft Brooke became Fort Myer Park), Partisan snipers killed nine officers and men who were walking along Patton Avenue between homestead Rd/US 27N & US 30E when they heard aircraft overcast with broken clouds coming down from high altitude; this may have been related to military activity taking place nearby within hours or days prior according to reports On February 24th 1957 local merchants Boynton Beach Woolen Mills closed their doors because of a lack of orders due to hurricane Donna but reopened 2 weeks later with normal production levels In 1984 local Paper Mill ceased operations due to Hurricane Andrew which caused extensive damage across much of South Florida In November 2006 local electrician Donny Hathaway died after collapsing while working on power lines just east of town limits while trying turn off power temporarily during extreme weather conditions

Crestview was a small town in Manatee County, Florida, United States until 1971. It is now part of the city of Fort Myers. Crestview was founded in 1892 by J.D. McConnell and his family as an agricultural village on the east side of Sarasota Bay. The community grew rapidly after the opening of the Everglades Causeway in 1915, and by 1925 it had a population of 2,000 people. In 1949, Crestview became an independent city with its own government and police force. For many years it was one of the most popular vacation spots in Florida; however, due to its low elevation and lack of infrastructure, it has declined in popularity over time. In 1971, when Manatee County merged into Sarasota County, Crestview went along with it. However, since then it has been trying to revitalize itself through education and marketing efforts within its own boundaries as well as outside them; for example, it has built a new airport nearby which opened in 2009. In 2013-14 Crestview received $2 million from state taxpayers to help fund a redevelopment project for downtown Fort Myers called " Renaissance Center." This project will include new housing and businesses that will be anchored around two large retail corridors: One near Interstate 441 (the Stranahan Highway) and one near US-27/SR-9 (Pinellas Avenue).
Crestview and its neighborhood of Sunrise were first settled in the early 1920s. The town was founded on a tract of land donated by the Heyward brothers, who also built a cotton gin and other infrastructure in Sunrise. By 1925, Crestview had a population of about 100 people. In the late 1940s, during World War II, Crestview became an important manufacturing center for war-time production of munitions and other items. In 1951, the town's community center was completed; it is still used today as a municipal building. By the early 1960s, Crestview had reached its peak population with over 500 residents. However, beginning in the 1970s, growth slowed as automobiles replaced manual transportation in many parts of Florida. In 1978, Crestview voters approved annexation by Sunrise Township; this led to increased development around the towncenter but no significant change in its demographics or economy. The last resident to live in Crestview died in 2002.
