Crestview is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The first mention of Crestview is from 1836 when it was known as "Crestville". In 1868, a post office called "Crestview" was established in what is now Coral Gables. By the early 1870s, CrestVIEW had become a thriving town with over 1,000 residents and several businesses including two banks and several grocery stores that sold groceries such as flour and eggs to other businesses in town. In 1886, Fort Myers became an independent city and annexed Crestview along with much of Coconut Grove (now Overtown) into its jurisdiction creating one municipality with two cities - Ft Myers & Miami proper each having three wards while Coral Gables had only one ward. This change did not sit well with the people of Crest View who saw their community decline while their neighbor’s status increased. In 1889 they organized themselves into a local union under the leadership of “Pete” Lightner to protect their rights to sell goods that were taking place between Ft Myers & Miami proper without getting taxed by either city officials or Fort Myers residents which led to them becoming effectively self-governing until annexation byMiami in 1907 caused another power struggle within their organization culminating in Pete’s sudden death resulting in most of his men leaving for good following his death instead of continuing on into annexation negotiations which then fell through due to lack of agreement among both sides about how much autonomy each should have within their new municipality/city). A post office called "CrestVIEW" was established at this location on November 15th 1893 after payment by mail order from Mrs John Sibley for delivery (the first ZIP code), marking the departure from downtown Fort Myers for what would be home for many years since no trains ran through there anymore but ample space could be found just east of US-1 between CRESTVIEW Boulevard and SR 1009 Road where today's PGA golf course sits

Crestview has a long and proud history as an agricultural center of south-central Florida. It began as a trading post on the Wekiva River in 1821 and was named for General James K. Polk because he had visited the area in 1824. In 1830, it became the county seat of Hardee County. In 1892, Crestview was purchased by J.P. Morgan and other investors who founded Jardine & Co., one of the largest shipping companies in America at that time. The company built a large cotton plantation there called Ponce de Leon Plantation which still stands today surrounded by farmland to this day. In 1907, Jardine & Co.'s flagship ship called SS President McKinley arrived at Crestview with over 2 million pounds of cotton destined for New York City market after having been diverted from its original route through Havana Harbour due to bad weather conditions in Cuba! The Agricultural Experiment Station was established at Crestview in 1916 as part of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) policy to study new techniques for farming during World War I. This station later became known as University ofFlorida Agricultural College (UFAC). After World War II, building began on what would become UFAC's first major college building - Science Hall - which opened in 1951 followed by Engineering Hall and then Veterinary Medicine Building before finally Health Sciences Center (HSC)opened in 2004 adjacent to Alumni Memorial Stadium/Patriots game field!
