The Coast Guard has been providing help and support to the community in Cutler Bay, Florida for over ninety years. The service has a history of giving back to the community through donations, fundraisers, and special events. The Coast Guard's cutter, "Hercules" was donated by Captain Harry A. Payne in 1918. The cutter was used as a tender for the Coast Guard icebreaking ship "Plymouth". In 1952, "Hercules" was donated to the town of Cutler Bay as part of the town's gifts to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). In 1978, "Hercules" was decommissioned and given to the Cutler Bay Historical Society as a museum vessel. From 1978-1981, "Hercules" underwent restoration which included updating her original information system and adding new exhibits on coastal life in Cutler Bay during World War II and after. In 1984, "Hercules"'s bow section was replaced with a dock landing platform which allowed her to be freely operated at local ports. She is still used today by locals as an outreach boat for local fishing tournaments and other events. Since 1985, "Hercules" has also served as a donation boat for unique fundraising initiatives such as Alzheimer's disease awareness Month and car wash nights in honor of military members from Petty Officer First Class (PN/1st Class) up until Lt Colonel (LTC) rank who have passed away.

Cutler Bay is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,869 at the 2010 census. Cutler Bay is part of the Jacksonville-Boca Raton-Monroe Combined Statistical Area. The name Cutler Bay comes from Captain John Cutler who first set foot on what is now Cutler Bay in 1794 while exploring the area for new land to purchase. He named it after his friend and fellow American explorer James Fenton Cutler. In 1834, General Andrew Jackson's army crossed over the bay and burned all of the trees and buildings in what is now known as "the burn". CutlerBay residents began moving into their current location in 1903 when they purchased of land from J.B. Hickey for $1 per acre. The first store opened in 1904 and by 1907 there were six stores in the town with a total population of approximately 350 people.
