The Cutler Bay Marine Museum is a nonprofit educational institution in Cutler Bay, Florida that preserves the history of maritime gifts and artifacts. The museum was founded in 1984 by retired naval officer and collector Gene L. Dorman. The museum has a collection of over 1,500 items from all aspects of maritime gift history. In 1889, John H. Stevens donated thirty live lobsters to the town of Cutler Bay as a thanksgiving gift for their victory over Spain at Santiago de Cuba during the Spanish-American War. In 1906, Mrs. J.C. Magee gave her collections ofautical memorabilia to the Cutler Bay Historical Society as part of an effort to promote remembrance and education about maritime gifts and artifacts from around the world. From 1966 until 1984, Cutterbay Maritime Museum Director Driscoll served on the staffs of both the Smithsonian Institution’s National Air and Space Museum (SAI) in Washington D.C., where he developed close ties with then-Director David Sarnoff and lead exhibits on air/space history for several years before leaving to become director at SAI; and The University of Miami (UH), where he remained until his retirement in 2000 Driscoll’s successor as Cutterbay Maritime Museum Director was Kevin Ahern who led museum operations through its growth into its current form including adding new galleries, renovations to facilities throughout the year, opening new awareness programs such as “Maritime Gifts: History & Meaning”and “A History Of Maritime Gifting” which has been featured on PBS numerous times across multiple platforms

Cutler Bay is a small town in the panhandle of Florida, located on the west coast of the state. The population was 1,636 at the 2010 census. Cutler Bay is known for its fishing and seafood businesses and has a number of beaches that provide beauty and relaxation to visitors. The town was founded in 1892 by Captain James Cutler and his family, who were moved from Chicago when their ship sank in 1891. Cutler Bay's name comes from its location on bayou Cutler which empties into Tampa Bay. Cutler Bay is bordered by Pinellas County to the north, Hillsborough County to the south, Polk County to the east, Citrus County to the west, and St Petersburg City to the northwest. Its climate is temperate with mild winters and hot summers that average about 82 degrees during summertime. There are many types of seafood available here for residents including crabmeat, oysters, fish (crawfish being especially popular), shrimp, lobster, catfish,and freshwater basses/flounders. The town has two public schools: Park Middle School (grades 7-8) and Park High School (grades 9-12). It also has one private school: Cutlers Cove Academy which offers grades PreK-12th grade as well as special education services for students with disabilities. Cutlers Cove Academy opened in 2002 after Hurricane Andrew destroyed several homes in Cutler Bay Twp., leaving some parents with children living out of their cars or using abandoned buildings until they could find new homes for them There are also a few churches located around town; one being First Baptist Church which serves as an anchor facility for local businesses A brand new church called Emmanuel Lutheran will open up next year in what used to be an old post office building on SW 2nd Street near US Hwy 19

Cutler Bay is located in the Miami-Dade county, Florida area and has been a part of that county since 1923. Cutler Bay is bordered by the Everglades to the north, Biscayne Bay to the east, and Indian Key to the south. The bay was named after Captain John Cutler who explored it in 1795. The first European settlement in Cutler Bay was made by Portuguese sailors on Christmas day, 1565 when they set up a small trading post. In 1811, Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon discovered Cutler Bay while sailing through the Gulf of Mexico and named it San Miguel de Rivera after his patron saint. After Spain ceded Florida to America in 1821, California claimed it as part of their territory and naming it Santa Barbara County after their Spanish patron saint; however this claim was abandoned when Napoleon Bonaparte took control of France in 1800. In 1835, US President Andrew Jackson approved boundary revisions which included cutting off Appleton from Santa Fe County so that he could build an army for war with Mexico; this created new land grants called “Osceola” counties which were later turned into Cutler Bay when Santa Fe County was incorporated into Miami-Dade County on March 12th, 1923. The first settlers in CutlerBay were Englishmen who arrived during1817-1820 period aboard HMS Beagle under Captain Cook while exploring South America. They built three small houses on present day Breezy Point Road near what is now known as Cutlers Beach because there wasn’t any other place they could go ashore or make repairs during those days before storms destroyed many homes along Clearwater Harbor shoreline every season causing great hardship for them and their families. It seems like these early pioneers didn’t have much successus because within 10 years most had left for more permanent locations such as Fort Myers (now Sarasota) or Ft Walton Beach (now Baldwin City). A group of German immigrants who sailed from Hamburg landed at Lighthouse Island about two miles northwest of present day Cutlers Beach on November 4th, 1914 aboard ship Auerbachsches Schiffgraben(Auerbach's Graveship). At first they engaged in agriculture but soon decided to explore Floridas' beautiful coastline which coincided with just about everything going on at that time: World War I was beginning and boatloads of refugees were coming ashore looking for sanctuary; American military forces were fighting Mexican troops stationed along the coastlines around Tampa; sugarcane production had begun replacing tobacco asFlorida's primary crop; businesses were starting up all over town due to prohibition laws being passed at that time.; several hotels – including one owned by Gertrude Stein – had opened up along Clearwater Harbor shoreline;; numerous people went out into the open ocean searching for new opportunities……... By late 1915 most Germans had returned home but some continued living on Lighthouse Island until 1917 when they sold it back to US Government officials……... Much has changed since then….. Today there are only a few scattered residential buildings remaining standing among palm trees lining Cutlers Beach where Germany once thrived…. Many residents still visit Lighthouse Island each year during Dutch Flag Day ceremonies commemorating those first Germans who bravely came ashore without any regard for danger or consequences…………… In 1925 Miami-Dade County acquired additional lands adjacent to its current boundaries - including what is now known as CutlerBay - through Taxation Act No. 712 passed by Congress following ratification of Weimar Constitution see also map attached…………………………………………………………………………………………………….........
